What exactly does the word credibility mean? It is being bantered about daily in headlines around the world regarding political leaders. Credibility is simply the ability to inspire belief or trust, believability in other words. Certainly words such as trustworthiness, reliability, integrity and sincerity all mean pretty much the same thing.
My question is what difference does it make if a particular political person is found credible or not? Why are we even listening to people who say what they say and do what they do to score political points all geared toward winning the next election. People will say and do anything to get and keep power.
In my books, there is only one who has passed the eternal test of credibility and that is God. We can trust Him for He means what He says and says what He means. We can believe what God speaks for it is as good as God Himself. God cannot lie so we can fully trust what He says to be true.
The Book of Romans states that all men (and women) are liars. Entangled in our very makeup as humans is the ability and willingness to lie whenever we feel threatened or see an avenue for gain. Pretty much these are the reasons people don't tell the truth. If they feel endangered by speaking the truth they will lie to save themselves, or they see a door opening to fame or fortune if they will make themselves out to be someone or something they aren't.
Some of the most sincere people I have ever known in this life were more or less professional liars. People have sold me 100% worthless products because they were sincere and projected an image or spoke words that dripped with super sweet sincerity. I can recall many people leaning over a table or desk and looking straight into my eyes while saying "I wouldn't lie to you". As it turned out they were lying as they spoke those words.
Anyone foolish enough to place their trust in the words of man deserves the consequences that come from doing such a silly thing. Our faith must be in the words of God as stated in His Word not in the empty promises of people desperate to make a sale or cover their rear end.
Some of the most prolific liars are children. They can be caught red handed with their hand in the cookie jar yet they will deny they were taking any cookies. I think far too often parents think such behavior is cute and fail to properly correct it. The sad result is that children grow up having learned that the better liar they are, the better things turn out for them.
Through my many years in the sales profession I was taught how to lie to people with a straight face. As a used car salesman I many times could not even make the sale unless I flat out lied about the condition of the vehicle or its history. That is the predominant reason I walked away from that profession and never looked back. I would rather be starving and destitute physically than to be destitute of the truth.
I used to sell children's books and various products to help kids read better. In many respects I really enjoyed that job for it was very fulfilling. That is until the word came down from the owner of the company that we had to start lying about various things to get more sales. Very soon thereafter I quit and never looked back. Once again, I would rather be physically destitute than to be destitute of the truth.
We are surrounded by con artists trying to gain our trust so as to gain our money or support. We must strive to be ever vigilant and ask the Lord for guidance and wisdom so as to see through that which is not true and grab hold to that which is.
Jesus told the Pharisees that they were of their father the devil who was and is the father of lies. No lie comes from God for God cannot lie. The serpent tricked Eve and Adam in the Garden because he lied to them and when they considered that lie to possibly be true, they were already sliding down that slippery slope known as the fall.
Only a na've fool would believe everything they hear. We must listen objectively, align our thinking to be subject to the Word of God and in all matters ask God for wisdom so that we know what is really true and what is nothing more than a "come on".
One of the saddest times in life comes when a person finally awakens and sees that they had been lied to by someone they trusted. Such a time produces a deep feeling of pain followed by anger and many times bitterness. That is why it behooves us to be wise as serpents but gentle as doves as Jesus said.
Very good subject B2Y. We have all bought into lies, and also told them. It is swapping truth for lies, where the real danger is. Seeing a lot of that. Politicians only speak of God for votes mostly. Action shows that. In christendom some will tolerate lies, if the donor gives enough.
"align our thinking to be subject to the Word of God" Amen. Says it all. Except may I add, "and our life". God Bless Brother.
Brother Kirk, it is very sad that in this modern world, many people have to lie in many situations to get sales, to get promotion, to get love, to get favours and to get all sorts of things .
The Bible is very sure about lying. May we stand up to the truth in our lives and in our different situations while being wise and shrewd in all our dealings. Help us Lord in this area when we are weak . I do feel cheated when I find out I have been lied or betrayed. It happened too many times and it caused much disillusions inspite of whatever reasons it might be.I find it hard to trust someone when I find out I have been lied to.

Which is a huge reason I have become a recluse! Not fun. Am stepping out a bit, but am using far more discretion, and am still prone to bite someone's head off when lied to! ! I am learning to unassociate with them who do as such! Yes patience! Please pray for me on this! Glory unto Him and thank youBrother Kirk for the no-nosense message! God Bless you! Dave
