With all my heart I would love to say that every day is a walk in the spiritual park and every step we take is "walking on sonshine". As cool as these things sound, the reality of life is that at times we end up in the ghetto instead of the park and each step is like walking in a dark cave.
Every person who has ever lived has spent time in the wilderness. Every person who has ever lived has endured seasons of pain, sorrow and sadness. Every person who has ever lived has fought personal demons seeking to plant doubt or dispute the Godly things taking place in their life. Every person who has ever lived has been hurt by the words or actions of a friend.
Upon getting born again, we are not immediately transported to a land of beauty, peace and perfection. That day will come when Jesus returns to take us home to be with Him. Until then, we must deal with the anger, confusion, selfishness, pride, lust, greed and pain surrounding us. We live in a VERY imperfect world full of VERY imperfect people.
We have been given "exceeding great and precious promises" which allow us to keep our wits in this life while having absolute assurance the day is coming when we will be taken from this place and transported to glory. God has not kicked us into the world to be devoured by its ugliness. He has equipped us with the tools to withstand the fiery darts of the wicked one as well as what it takes to live righteously, walk in the grace of God and be epistles of His love.
Some days we do a really good job handling the distractions, disruptions and destruction of this world. Other days we fall prey to physical, emotional, financial or relationship related woes. Some days we do walk on Sonshine, but other days the walk is through the valley of the shadow of death. Some days are so wonderful we never want them to end while other days drag on forever as we must fight physical, mental or financial wars.
It really doesn't matter what kind of day we are having as long as we never waiver in our absolute trust that God is with us, helping us every step of the way. It does not matter if we are sick or feel great, weak or are strong, oppressed or free as a bird. What is important is that we do not allow anything or anyone to plant doubts in our heart regarding the promises of our God or our eternal destiny.
Instead of wasting our time trying to build heaven on earth, we should devote our time to being faithful to God's calling while building our relationship with Him. Instead of frantically searching for that ray of sonshine, we should grab hold of the Son's hand and let Him lead us every step of the way.
