Understanding the enemy and how he works

I am going to attempt writing the most difficult and complex, yet vitally important blogs I have ever tried to write. Please bear with me and at least try to keep up as we look into the very heart of the adversary. Obviously the devil does not want people to know this stuff so he will fight me tooth and nail trying to keep me from presenting it and doing it in such a way that can be understood. I have no idea how many blogs that it will take to present this material, but I am determined to do the best I can to make known “the mystery of satan's will” and exposing him for who he is - the deceiver of God's people.

Let us begin our journey by looking again at 2 Corinthians 2:11 (All scripture references will be from the King James Version (KJV) unless otherwise noted):

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The words “should get an advantage of us” are all one Greek word which basically means to take advantage of someone or to DEFRAUD them. God does not want us to be defrauded by Satan, and the only way this can happen is by us not being ignorant of his devices. The English word “defraud” means to deprive of something by deception or fraud. Legally, the word “defraud” is to make a misrepresentation of existing material, knowing it to be false or making it recklessly without regard to whether it is true or false. Perhaps an easier word for us to understand is “cheat” .

Cheat means to obtain something by deception or artifice (an artful or crafty stratagem). Cheating involves taking something wrongfully without the knowledge or consent of the owner. This defrauding or cheating represents the very essence of the word “wiles” in Ephesians 6:11:

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

The word wile is used to in reference to a stratagem (a clever scheme that is designed to deceive others) or trick intended to deceive or ensnare. The schemes of the devil are all designed to trick God's people into believing his lies and to defraud them of what God has done for us and given to us in Christ Jesus. The devil cannot literally steal what we have in Christ, so he works 24 hours a day developing cleverly devised schemes whereby he seeks to deceive, trick or ensnare believers in his web of deception.

God does not want His people defrauded by satan. God does not want His people taken advantage of by satan. God does not want His people to fall prey to the cunning craftiness of skilled agents of the devil whose sole intent and purpose is to cheat His people of the glorious rights and privileges we have in Christ Jesus. Satan does this by misrepresenting what is presented in God's Word. He knows what he says is a lie, but he promoting it as the truth. Remember what it said in Genesis 3:1a about the serpent?

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

The word “subtil” is NOT subtle, for that waters down the meaning of the word. The King James Version Dictionary defines the word “subtil” as: Sly; artful; cunning; crafty; deceitful; treacherous. Genesis 3:1 marks the first time any word relating to the devil is used in the Bible and it is very telling that the word used (subtil) describes his cunningness, craftiness, deceitfulness and treachery.

Satan is smart, intelligent and has the ability to transform himself into an angel of light. Satan uses his craftiness to trick and deceive unsuspecting believers. He sneaks up unaware and looks harmless and sounds like someone worth listening to. Satan spends years developing a strategy with the sole intent to captivate, ensnare, deceive and defraud a believer of what is legally his/hers in Christ Jesus.

It pains me to see so many Christians oblivious and apathetic towards the wiles of the devil. They are far more concerned about making a name for themselves in this world, making money, attending soccer matches, gossiping with friends and participating in recreational activities to worry about what the enemy of God's people is up to. This ignorance is what allows satan to take advantage of God's people, deprive them of what they have in Christ Jesus and use them to further his ungodly purposes. Until and unless Christians are willing to devote some time and effort to learning about their adversary, they will be taken captive by him at his will.

We cannot afford to be ignorant of who the devil is, his purposes are and how he works. Unless we take the time to study our enemy, our enemy will succeed in taking from us the power and rights we legally have as children of God through the finished work of Christ Jesus. If a Christian does not care about their faith or pleasing God, there is no reason to learn about the “wiles of the devil” . But, if the desire of a Christian's heart is to glorify God, walk in fellowship with Him and speak His Word effectually; the time must be invested to learn not only about what we have in Christ, but also satan and his devices.

Rest assured that if I continue to try and write about this material, the enemy will continue to buffet me with physical and financial pressure. I beg of you; if you desire me to continue researching and presenting this material - please pray for me (and Beth also). Only through and with appropriate prayer cover can anyone attempt to unveil the devices and wiles of the wicked one and not get the tar beaten out of him in the process. Thank you for allowing me to share what God has placed on my heart.

"Only through and with appropriate prayer cover can anyone attempt to unveil the devices and wiles of the wicked one and not get the tar beaten out of him in the process."

All of us standing by you do need to "consistently" pray for you and Beth -- and pray for one another as well; because it is obvious that the Holy Spirit is inspiring you to "more acutely" inform us of Satan's devices, so that we can attain further spiritual victory.

Thank you for stepping out into this spiritual tributary to help us gain a better insight into the larger picture of spiritual realities.

God bless you, Kirk and Beth
