We are who God says we are

I AM WHO GOD SAYS I AM

I CAN DO WHAT GOD SAYS I CAN DO

I WILL BE WHAT GOD SAYS I WILL BE

I HAVE WHAT GOD SAYS I HAVE

More than once in my life I have had to stand in front of the mirror reciting some version of these words. More than once in my life, situations or people have tried to convince me that I am worthless, weak and a worm. More than once in my life, the enemy has dispatched agents to swarm about me as gnats by the river, buzzing in my ear telling me it is a lie.

I AM WHO GOD SAYS I AM

Of all the lies the enemy comes up with, this is the one that causes me the most harm. Due to my personality, physical construction and emotional make up; I confess that I am prone to tear myself down and wallow in the mud of self doubt. Throughout my whole life I have had to work to believe I am anything but a broken down excuse for a man, leader, son or husband. I am aware that this is my weakest link and have consciously worked to deal with it.

I used to have a list of all the things mentioned in the New Testament regarding WHO GOD SAYS I AM. It was quite a list that occupied many pages. I have thought many times about doing that project again, even though I know it would take the rest of my earthly life. Just start in Romans and write down everything the Bible says regarding your true identity. It is a super cool and easy way to engrain in your mind the truth about who you really are.

I CAN DO WHAT GOD SAYS I CAN DO

We all know what Philippians 4 says, for it is one of the first verses we learn many times as a Christian. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STENGTHENS ME. Without total belief in what that verse says, we will never do things God's way and we will forever and a day seek to strengthen our bodies, souls and minds as we mistakenly believe our ability to do is based on our own strength.

Throughout the Old Testament it is plainly stated over and over again that GOD IS OUR STRENGTH. David is the one who mentioned this the most and who believed it with all his heart. David could not defeat Goliath through his own strength and might. But, with God as his strength, Goliath was but a weakling easily destroyed by the power of God.

I WILL BE WHAT GOD SAYS I WILL BE

Scoffers have tried to place doubts in believer's minds since the days of Noah regarding whether the promises of God are really true. Without hope, we have nothing to look forward to and thus it makes sense to devote ourselves fully to amassing huge fortunes and influence in this life. Without hope, we have nothing to justify totally devoting ourselves to God in this life. Without hope, we have nothing to pull us through the disasters and turmoil life many times presents.

One day Christ shall return and when He does, we will be given a new body fashioned unto His glorious body. One day we will see Christ face to face, where He is and forever be with Him. One day we will receive rewards for all we have sacrificed in this life for Him. One day we will return with Him to establish His kingdom on earth. We have so much to look forward to don't we!

I HAVE WHAT GOD SAYS I HAVE

Herein is the crux of the whole matter. In order to walk in the light and live this life the way God intended, we must strive to convince ourselves that we truly do HAVE WHAT GOD SAYS WE HAVE. God says we have righteousness, sanctification, reconciliation, justification and eternal life. If we spend a lifetime doubting these things, we will never live the way God intended us to live nor will we enjoy the benefits God has given us.

We truly have been given more than we could possibly understand in this life. Our finite minds cannot begin to grasp the fullness of God in Christ in us. The promises of God far surpass our little mind's ability to comprehend€”they are that BIG. But, whatever God has said we have€”WE HAVE. The promises of God are ours for He has said so.

The renewed mind involves changing our minds to line up with what the written Word of God says about us. Whatever we can do to change the way we think of ourselves, our lives and our future so that it is in alignment with the Word of God will help us be who God says we are and do what God says we can do.
