I was somewhat shocked to receive the following comment on another site I still have some blogs on. The blog in question simply stated from Proverbs the truth that only a fool would not believe in God. I had received other derogatory comments but nothing quite like this one:
"It is people like you who have stagnated mankind. You are idiots. Put down your primitive superstitions and grow up. Let’s look into what we are and where we came from. The answer is not in any stupid book written by ignorant superstitious humans!!! Put down your "King James" Version bible and read the original texts. Then you will see what FOOLS you are .The book has been re-written to cope for the obvious ignorant statements from the HUMANS who wrote the Books. I would love to be able to turn the clock back and see how much further mankind would have advanced without such nonsense. Please wake up and help tell the world to love earth and its inhabitants and not kill rape and torture for imaginary beings!"
Now, I don’t really mind being called an "idiot" for I have been called far worse in my life. What bothers me is the boldness on the part of those who hate God and His people compared to the timidity of those who claim they love Him. How many Christians would have the audacity to go to secular site and speak the truth in love (without the personal slams)? Not too many for most Christians don’t believe enough in their faith to defend it.
I am glad to know there are still folks out there who prove the Bible is correct in all it says. People such as the one who left this comment know absolutely nothing about the God I love and serve and who will one day come back to judge creeps such as him. He has chosen to not only ignore God in this life but to also attack those who do believe in God. I would not want to be in his shoes when standing before the Great White Throne to give an account of what he said.
Those who blame us Christians for all the woes in the world use the argument that we are the ones who have messed everything up because of our belief in a god who they claim doesn’t exist. They say we are the ones responsible for wars, terrorist attacks, global warming and poverty. If we agree with these people we should turn in our Bibles and membership cards to our local church and go join them. Otherwise we need to beseech God for more boldness to speak His Word.
I realize the above mentioned comment represents a minority of people, but they are a very vocal minority who have succeeded in planting doubts in millions of Christians minds. I believe it is high time for God’s people to quit being so afraid and start blazing a trail of Godly outreach again.
This comment is representative of the thoughts and vileness presenting in a lot of internet places. Perhaps Satan is gaining such momentum toward his ownership of the world, and part of that is riling up people against Christ's children. We must guard our hearts and minds so that when he attempts to plant those thoughts in our own heads, we will have the word planted there instead, strong enough to identify the temptation, to tell him to leave, and grow ever stronger in our relationship with Christ.
thankyou for reporting that this is going on.
Years ago, my husband told our son
If a man does not stand for something, he will fall for anything.
My son has never forgotten that. We absolutely must be willing to take a stand for Christ and then do it!
What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels." Mark 8:36-38 (NIV)
Matt. 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Eph. 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Just something I always keep in mind when dealing with perceived "enemies" of the Gospel. But for the Grace of God there go I !!
My pastor said this past Sunday that what it may well take is persecution of believers in Jesus Christ to bring about an awakening in "The Church". I agree with this. It will take persecution in what we profess to believe to get true believers to speak out and stand up for who Jesus Christ is and to profess who they are in Jesus Christ! Great discussion.
as i read this blog and the comments, it reminds me of a blog i wrote mumbling about our spiritual life being like"eyeor" the donkey from winnie the poo. throw"sleprock" from the flintstones(wowsy wowsy woa is me) if i dont "stick to the basics, prayer, reading and studying god's word, spending time with him and my brothers and sisters in christ and those who are not yet there, then i'm going thru"the religious motions and the "highway to heaven" will take me over a cliff.. be encouraged and be blessed
Looking and listening to what is going on around me in this world, I must say this bold reaction is more of a "majority" than a "minority" attitude. As Christians we best wake up and speak boldly - while we can. Oh yes not being able to can happen right here in the USA!
I'm not sure 'boldness' is entirely the issue though.
You mention 'speaking the truth in love', and I think that passage as well as passages on controlling our tongues have relevance on this issue. As followers of Christ, we are constrained in our words and actions. Our constraints should not be based upon fear, but rather upon a desire to let no unwholesome talk come from our mouths, and to speak with love even to those who curse us.
In the end, it is not our fine words and arguments which will sway souls. It is God's word coming from us, given with an attitude of love so that the message and our actions are in accord.
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
I think JesusisLord is correct as well. There is a point at which the most Christ-like response is to shake their dust from our feet...
the vineyard is vast, and we are not the only workers in the field.
