After an amazing amount of public support from the ChristianBlog.Com community/family it was decided to purchase a dedicated server for ChristianBlog.Com to help with the increased growth we have been experiencing!
Every website that goes from being small to large to huge has to go through this stage, and this is the first of many stages we hope to have in the future of the growth of ChristianBlog.Com!
The Dedicated Managed Server was ordered on Tuesday July 28, 2009 at at 3:28 AM!
We received confirmation today that the server has began the process of being configured with the necessary software which will run our server.
For those interested in the details of the server... it is a low-end to mid-range server... but it is a managed server which is why it was a bit more expensive month-to-month.
Dell Dual Core E2220, 2.4 Ghz
2 GB memory
2x250 GB SATA Hard Drive (1 for data, 1 for redundant storage)
Once we receive further updates on the status we will notify the public. At this time we hope to have it ready to be accessed by weeks-end, so we can do some initial testing on it over the weekend. If all goes well we might even have the entire ChristianBlog.Com website transferred over to the new server before the first of the month! What a great way to be able to start of August, eh!
We would like to thank everybody who has helped us through this process - both everybody here at ChristianBlog.Com and those at Doreo Hosting - and would like to continue to encourage everybody that can Support ChristianBlog.Com to do so!
I have not clue what all those specs mean but I know it must be very good. God is great and greatly to be praised.
Will we notice any immediate changes other than a faster site?
Thank you for all your hard work on this matter.
also want to add.....I will pray that this server will have a 'servant's heart', serving CB and not the other way around, :) (in other words, not too many bugs to be worked out) Praise God!
@All, Wow, thank you everybody for your support and encouring words!
@b2u, no immediate changes should be expected. I want to make sure it is 100% stable before we go playing around.
Rob Henson (@greybear), members should not have to do anything. The move to the new server will result in the website being offline for a few minutes at some point over this weekend (15 minutes on the low end, 2-hours on the high end).

What type of message will we get when we try to access the site when the server is down for the switchover???

Haha! We could post a message saying we'd all been raptured . . . .
I just wanted to remind you that you can make the home page load even faster if you go to your [internallink=http://www.christianblog.com/account/homepagesettings.php]Home Page Settings[/internallink] and turn off the "Who's Logged In" and "General Statistics" settings (these alone should increase the page load time by about two seconds. You can also disable the "Gallery" to save yourself an extra second or so.
With them all one the home page takes about 2.4 seconds to load (for me).
With those three items turned off the home page takes about 0.4 seconds to load (for me).
So, you can easily save an extra two seconds by turning them off, if you are somebody who does not care who has logged into ChristianBlog.Com and/or somebody who does not care about the "top blogs/bloggers/etc" stats. (btw, if my testings are correct, it seems the "whos online" takes longer to load than the top-stats do, so turn on/off as you so desire... play around and see what works best for you!)
Thanks to savedbygrace and aliveintheword for your feedback!! "super fast" and "zoom zoom" are amazing ways to describe the differences I am also noticing!
WOAH! LOVE IT!
