New Requirement: 5 Blog Entries Required Before Offsite Linking

Public Notice:

As of 11/1/2008 ChristianBlog.Com is now requiring all members to post at least five (5) Blog Entries that do NOT contain a link to another website, before they can post a link to other websites (aka: off-site linking.)

ChristianBlog.Com is taking this step to further reduce the amount of spam advertisement new members attempt to publish.

A popular technique of blog spammers is to join a blog service - such as ChristianBlog.Com - and post a single blog entry with a link to other websites.

In the past ChristianBlog.Com suspended these type of blog entries as soon as we detected they were posted, however we have felt it was time to take a pro-active stance against these type of blog spammers by simply not allowing blog entries to contain any offsite links, until the new member has proven to ChristianBlog.Com, and the ChristianBlog.Com Community, that they are capable of posting Content that is not spam, advertisement, or such things.

Again, all members will now be required to posted at least five (5) Blog Entries that contain no website links, before they will be allowed to publish Blog Entries that can contain off-site links.

Thank you,
ChristianBlog.Com

Hello,

A quick follow-up to this new requirement.

In the last three days since this was implemented we have had a total of one person (who was a new member) successfully post a blog entry that contained a spam url within it... and that individual went through a lot of work to figure out how to get around our system. In the end, that members account was terminated for violations of our Global Policies as we do not allow reverse engineering (or even attempting thereof) per our Global Policies.

Before we implemented this requirement we were getting between two and five blog entries a day that we considered blog spamming due to off-site linking.

This means that on a monthly basis, if we take an average of three blog entries we (would have) removed, we have saved the ChristianBlog.Com Community an average of 90 blog entries that would have otherwise been considered spam. This is an impressive number.

Not only does it mean that the ChristianBlog.Com Community is now even further protected from blog spamming, but we have saved a huge amount of time (on our end) from having to manually suspend/terminate these spam blogs from our website. Weeee!!!!

Ah, thanks for bouncing this old topic back up kk... as I've been meaning to mention we are going to enable this same requirement for posting links within blog comments.

Because we placed this limitation, we are beginning to have these same spammers post spam within existing blogs entries, as blog comments.

So to prevent these spammers from continuing to abuse us all, we are looking to implement the same requirement.... 5 blog entries before adding a blog comment with a website link within it.

May not make people happy... but new members should understand that posting here is a privilege not a right - and the rest of us don't want their spam advertisements.

Hello Everybody,

I wanted to announce that we have put into place the "x-blog entries required before you can post a blog comment with a website link within it" restriction.

A popular method of people spamming websites is to join a website and rather than post blog entries, they just spam existing blog entries with comments that contain website links.

To counter that, we have now put into place a forced requirement that people must publish at least three (3) blog entries with no website links, before they can publish blog comments with website links.

And, our existing restriction requirement that people must publish at least five (5) blog entries with no website links, before they can publish blog entries with website links, is still in place.

We chose to go with three (3) blog entries rather than five (5) blog entries, for allowing Blog Comments, because most spammers are not going to go through the effort of posting that much content, just to be able to spam. And, if they are that willing, chances are we will detect their activities and terminate their account before they get away with their illegal activities.

At this time we have also put into place Blog Comment Length Limitations. This limitation will be identical to the limitations put on the publication of Blog Entries. This will prevent spammers from posting blog comments with thousands and thousands of words. We have never had this happen, but better to be safe than sorry. You can see the Length Limitations on our Membership Chart page.
