For those of you who do not have a bookmark directly to the login page of ChristianBlog.Com, you probably noticed a newly (drastically) redesigned home page for ChristianBlog.Com this morning!
Effective just a few minutes ago we rolled out a new (non-logged in) home page for the ChristianBlog.Com website, which does away with everything that use to be there, except the right-hand categories, the testimonies, and the about website section.
What we replaced everything with was what we are (for now) calling our "Splash" page - which has the latest Blog Entries to utilize our most recent new feature "Photographs Embed Into Blogs" - which is a really great new feature that allows you to include a photograph from flickr.com within your Blog Entry!
If you missed it what the new home page looks like just check out the photograph within this Blog!
For now, we are not sure how long we will keep the home page this way. Call this both an "experiment" to test how well/nice it works/is, but also call this a "encouragement" to everybody to take an extra moment or two to really make your Blog Entry stand out, by including a photograph or two with your Blog Entry!
For a very (very) long time ChristianBlog.Com has allowed the ability to include photographs within your Blog Entries via either our own Gallery System or via the BBCode Image method.
We have tried a lot of different things to encourage our members to spice up their blogs by including a photograph or two - and we really went the extra mile when we added the "Photographs Embed Into Blogs" feature two months ago. We are happy to see a few people use it, but we want MORE people using it! Why? Because photos make blogs look nicer (usually)... because images make blogs feel more relevant... more personal... more alive!
So, we just want to encourage all of our members to check out the Photographs Embed Into Blogs feature... and take that few extra moments to use it... and to get your Blog featured on our newly designed home page!
me ans my wife attend the annual world famous philadelphia flower show. would it be possible to include our pictures in some of our blogs/
Ummmm.. Well, opening CB this morning for me was quite a shocker, John. To me, it looked like the Home Page was quite personalized. With the exception of the photo of the new HP (seen in this blog), I sure recognized the other 5 photos.
As you can tell, I really LIKE the ability to embed Filckr photos. They can add a great deal to a blog. And they are easy to use! (even for a technosurous dinosaurous like me) A picture can be worth a thousand words if used properly.
I'll have to reserve opinion on the Splash format of the HP, however. Must say, it DOES cause a splash! My concern is how new visitors might react. As you can see from the photos, these are some hot button topics. I most certainly don't want visitors to turn away because of a photo either.
Anyway, John, you continue to amaze with your creativity and continual work to keep CB THE premier Christian blog site in the universe!
YOU DA MAN, John!
I like it, I like it, I like it. Pictures attract attention more quickly then mere words do, more for some individuals then for others.
thanks for the replay john.my pic are not on flicker.they are just loaded on my computer.didnt want them on too many websites and someone taking the credit for them
I like the feature of being able to add pictures to our blogs. Once I figure it out I'll start doing it... lol. I kinda feel as Art perhaps does...the 'splash' page is a little overwhelming and could turn off some visitors...wouldn't want that.
A couple minutes ago we pulled the plug on this new "splash" home page.
I have come to realize that this feature was poorly implemented and I could either keep patch-fixing it or do the right thing and pull it offline until I can go back and do this entire feature correctly from the ground-up.
I take total responsibility for this. I failed to do what I should have done in the first place, which was make it so it would work smoothly with not just flickr.com but any photo hosting service. I did this because of the super-easy ability to link together the flickr service with the ChristianBlog.Com Service. However, it was the wrong thing to do. I have been feeling bad about it for the last 48 hours or so and I could not take it any longer.
So, my apologies to everybody for putting forth a feature that was not done properly.

Just wanting to know if and when you redesign the Splash Style Home Page if there was a way to include more blogs and smaller photos? I really liked the idea, but one thing I noticed was that I was afraid of adding another blog for fear of bumping what was already there totally off the page. How many blogs can fit on that page anyway, and how far back in blog history were you planning to go? In other words, what limited what was shown on that page?
D Kelley (@lineman),
Those were all the questions I should have asked myself BEFORE it was implemented the last time - yet didn't in my haste.
At this point, I have no answers to any of those questions. But I will before I think of putting this feature back into reality.
