To Twitter Or Not To Twitter

Hello All,

Those of you who are twitter users probably know that ChristianBlog.Com has a Christianblog Account (@christianblog) (twitter account) that pushes out a twitter for all of the new blog entries that are added to the ChristianBlog.Com website.

We the popularity of our twitter-like feature we are wanting to know a very simple question to those of you with a twitter account...

We can also push any message you add to your "whats on your mind?" to your twitter account. It would require you to trust ChristianBlog.Com with your twitter account and password, which we would store in a very highly encrypted format within our database (nearly identical encryption that is used at LockedJournal.Com and LockedPassword.Com - other websites developed by the same folks behind ChristianBlog.Com).

The question is... would those of you who do have a twitter account WANT to have your CB updates pushed to your twitter account?

Let us know. If we get enough folks showing interest, we'll consider investing the time to make this feature part of ChristianBlog.Com

I would like to have CB updates on twitter

Be fine with me!

Marsha Tyler Ronquist @kraftykatz ·

sounds good to me

Rob Henson @greybear ·

I don't twitter....have no use for it.

Sandy Brooks @poodlelady ·

What is a twitter -I'm guessing I don't have one

I was going to ask the same thing pooh

John B. Abela @abelajohnb ·

Ah, the every popular question.... "what is it??"

Well, I'm not going to even begin to try to explain it beyond these two things....

(1) "twitter" is identical in service to how the feature here at ChristianBlog.Com (at the top of the website) that asks "whats on your mind?". It allows you to post very brief "what i'm doing in life" messages that are no more than 140-characters in length. I guess you could read the about page from twitter itself, of course.

(2) Because I am usually pretty bad explain the "what is it" question... here is a video I found at youtube that explains it....

To post Twitter messages you can use the twitter website, or computer software such as TweetDeck, or iPhone software such as Tweetie, and a whole bunch of other ways.

Personally I use twitter ( John B. Abela (@abelajohnb) ) to share with folks what is going on in my own life (I usually try to talk about things that are funny), as well as share things about the ministries I am involved in (such as things related to ChristianBlog.Com that I don't normally share here at CB because its too much effort to post a blog about something that can be said in under 140 characters), and I of course use it to communicate with friends I have that also use twitter.

Being somebody that is infront of a computer all day... and somebody that is "surrounded by technology" all day... I had a hard time convincing myself to start using twitter - after all, "do I really want everybody to know what stupid thing I'm doing now?"... or perhaps the better question I asked myself... "WHY would people care what stupid things I'm doing all day long?" LOL. But, as it turns out, oddly enough... twitter has proven not only useful to me from a business perspective, and a ministry perspective... but from a personal day-to-day-real-life perspective.

Anyway, the reason for this issue being brought up is that we have the ability here at ChristianBlog.Com to interface our own "whats on your mind?" feature with twitter. If we implement this feature, anytime you update your CB "whats on your mind?" update, it would also post that to your twitter account (obviously, only if you had one and if you authorized us to).

As said in the initial blog message, ChristianBlog.Com has an account at twitter and everytime a new blog is posted here at CB the CB twitter account ( Christianblog Account (Christianblog Account (@christianblog)) ) gets updated with the title of the blog, who wrote it, and a link to the blog. So, all I do (and a lot of other people who use twitter) is set my personal account to "follow" the Christianblog Account (Christianblog Account (@christianblog)) account, and anytime anybody posts a new blog at ChristianBlog.Com I get notified via the software I use (TweetDeck) that a new Blog has been posted. If I am not busy, I just click on it and am taken right to the blog. Otherwise, it is sitting there in twitter account for me to read/review later.

Wow, for somebody who wasn't going to explain what it is... I guess I went a little overboard.

Anyway, watch the video clip

I just recently joined twitter. For those of you not familiar with twitter, join for a short time and then decided. You can always cancel in a couple of weeks. I joined becasue I heard so much about it and was curious.

Cool, glad to hear you've checked it out. Would love to hear what you "think" about it, in a week or two.

I am enjoying twitter. It allows you to follow the friends who are there. I found a young lady from my church right away. Three other friends found me.

You can follow the ChristianBlog website. You can also follow your favorite TV shows.

Unlike facebook, you are not being sent silly little games by people. It is like a constant chain letter. I have been ignoring them. They are fun for the first day or so.

There is nothing like that at twitter.

John, my friend at church is about your age and single.
Just kidding.
She tells everyone she is a happy single and that a husband and children are not what God has for her life.

John B. Abela @abelajohnb ·

Yeah, I am finding less and less reason to visit facebook every time I visit it... and I also try to remind myself that I am the guy who wrote the blog "[blog=abelajohnb/why-i-will-no-longer-be-using-facebook/]Why I Will No Longer Be Using Facebook![/blog]" and I should probably hold myself accountable too that.

As for the lady in your church... I would say the most important thing for you to do would be to pray for her continued safety. I have no doubt that a single lady that is my age or older (35+) and single, has got to constantly be worried about her personal safety. I have an older sister who is single and travels a lot. If I could talk her into getting a hand-gun I would feel sooo much better... but she won't. I am hoping to talk her into letting me buy her one of those new Taser C2 personal defense tasers next time she comes home.

Twittering mildly frightens me... but then when I think of the members of the United States Congress Tweeting durring a presidential address, I smile and all is forgotten.

Darrell Dorr @gfccbrother ·

Amen amuse  , I have all kinds of people telling me to get a face book, twitter etc. I spend enough time on my computer, I need to spend more time with God and my family. My main computer use is this site and email. I do read news and check weather, but anymore I don't wish to sit at my computer until I get hemorrhoids. I think computers can be a distraction away from God. I am thankful I found this site though that draws me to God. And who says our United States Congress is smart about everything they do. So you can probably tell I'm not going to be signing up for no tweeting or putting my life on the Internet anywhere but here.

Twitter should not in any way be confused with the nonsense that is facebook or myspace.

Twitter is as different from the other 2 as a kitty cat is from a skunk.
