Everyone wants to be leaders, let us be servants..

Asa manager in the sofware industry, I usually interact with so many people, the developers who report to me, my clients and the business users who provide me the requirements, everyday we deal with lots of escalations, issue, problems. When I see the issues and the people problems we face at work, it is mostly because everyone wants to be leaders. Starting from freshers to the Business users everyone want to be leaders, no one wants to listen or take directions. Everyone wants to give directions. Everyone wants to be the boss.At home, again the same issue kids to grand parents, everyone wants to be the boss.

Matthew 20:25-28Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

As I was thinking I realized, "Everyone wants to be leaders, let us be servants.." This is one of the very important principles behind being the followers of Christ. True, in a way, the only way to deal with all these day to day issues it to be a servant, rather than try to be the boss and direct them. They are not going to listen. We better be humble, so that weremainin the Kingdom ofHeaven. Let us learn to serve them in the Christain way.

Luke 17:10So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'”

Matthew 23:9-12And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Mark 9:33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

When my son was a teenager, my husband and I were volunteer parents in a Christian theatrical ministry for teens that which he participated in. These young people would often be on stage in front of hundreds and even thousands of their peers. Therefore, as you can imagine, we often spoke about "servanthood". To illustrate what this meant, my husband would draw a pyramid and write the word "leader" at the top. Then he would say this is what it means to be a leader in the world. Everyone below the leader was supporting the leader. He would then flip the picture upside down. Now "The Leader" was at the bottom, supporting the everyone else. This is what it means to be a leader within the Kingdom of God. It means you are a servant and you seek to serve, support and uplift others.
