Mathew 11: 29-30 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
When I started following Christ, the cross I was carrying was so heavy. Over these long years, I felt the cross getting lighter and lighter. Actually, there is no change in the complexity of work or the activities that I do on a daily basis or the people around me, it is just that I do it with lots of ease.
1. Discipline to Obey and Follow Jesus
1 Corinthians 9:27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
Discipline reduces the complexities in our life. Usually, we form our habits as we grow-up. But in Christ these habits needs to be disciplined. Having a simple, good, healthy, prayerful routine helps us to plan our day better. For people who were born in a Christian family, there may not be much disciplining required. But people who grew-up in a non-Christian background, might need lots of disciplining. It is like turning a rough road to smooth one. Discipline eliminated lots of burden from the cross that we are carrying. It helps by in reducing most of the unwanted hurdles in our life, it stops the entry of unwanted thoughts, deeds and desires which ruins our lives. It helps us to work with God the whole day. Discipline helps us to give God more authority and control over our lives. Discipline eliminates weeds in our daily routine. So it gives more time for us to bear fruits in Christ Jesus. Like how Gold is purified, our habits are refined better and better as we move closer to Jesus and follow what and how Jesus has taught us to be.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.
2. Build your Character in Christ
Acts 17:11Now the Berean Jews were of more noblecharacterthan those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Our Faith and belief defines our reaction, our thoughts, our emotions and our character. The same situation can make people react differently based on their faith and beliefs. When things are all going smooth most people behave the same, but as situation gets tougher and tougher, the fear, anxiety, stress keeps increasing and it penetrates to deep inside the unknown corners of our mind. In people who are yet to build their characters in Christ, it starts revealing the unbelief and weaknesses. Build your character in Christ by increasing the Faith in Christ, by understanding the scriptures, meditating on them. Let His words sink deep inside the unknown corners of your mind, so that they are brought to light. Character makes us strong in who we are in Christ. Christ brings in very unique characters into our lives which no other faith or community can bring in. Let us walk with the fragrance of Christ around us. As we walk around let people be touched by His presence.
Romans 5:3-4 Not only so, but wealso glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;perseverance, character; and character, hope
3 .Work closely with the Holy Spirit
Galatian 5:16So I say, walkby theSpirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Finally, while carrying your cross walk in Spirit not by Flesh. For the flesh is weak, don't listen to your flesh, but listen to the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, the Counsellor given to us in Christ. We need to reach out to seek His counsel. Ask Him, Pray for His guidance and answers. Plan your day with Holy Spirit, work in the Spirit, Rest (Sleep) in Spirit. Finally, we were not called to walk as slaves, but as free. As you carry the cross, look at the ultimate destiny of Heaven. Carry your cross in the Spirit with the Joy in Christ, like small Children walking to Heaven.
Galatian 5:13You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use yourfreedomto indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
