1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Romans 14:6 He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.
I was not brought up with the habit of praying (thanking God) before having food. About 5yrs back i suddenly felt I will have to pray before everytime I havefood. But what happened was the minute I see the food I would start eating, and would remember that I forgot to pray. I used to try hard, but still I kept forgetting. I just could not get to the habit of praying before meals. Then one day, during one for my dialin prayer meetings, I asked them to pray for it. I told them that I have been trying for a while and I keep missing it. Then one of my friends told me she had a very similar experience, when one of her friends came to her and said, he was not sure if she was a believer or not, so he was watching her to see if she was praying before food, to find out if she was a believer, but she did not pray before food and so he decided that she wwas not a believer. And from then on she made sure that she prayed before food. Also, she told me, for human mind it usually takes 3 weeks to either get into or get out of a habit. So after she prayed I made up my mind that I will try hard to hold on to pray before meals for 3 weeks till it becomes my habit, to my surprise, it worked. Now no matter what any food I take I atleast say a small prayer, and remember God before taking it. In a way, that really helps, because most of the times I eat with non-believers, so it gives me that oppurtunity to call my God and help them remember the Lord.
Though it is a very simple thing, it is a very strong and good habit. To call on the Lord and Thank Him for the food and the Blessings He has given us. In a way it gives me the oppurtunity to pray tpothe Lord atleast 3 times a day, and if required I can pray to him more. Sometimes in the eveining these prayer take more time, based on my needs, it really helps me to spend good time with God.
Matthew 14:19 Ordering the people to sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds,
Matthew 15:36 and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
Matthew 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."
I know it was just a one letter spelling error, but that title really catches ones eye:). It has happened to me too.
We should pray before our meals. Great habit, to thank God and recognize His daily provisions. Everything. God bless you.
