“Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?" Luke 10:40
"Save us, Lord; we are perishing!" Matthew 8:25
These are two interesting conversations between Jesus Christ and His followers in the Gospel. When I look closer, they have the Lord Him who is the Provider and the Creator seated right in front of them, and they are asking - "Don't you care?" "We are perishing".
Most of the times in life when we get into difficult situations we say God, I am in such a great pain, I am not sure if I will be able to survive this, but we don't realize that the one whom we are speaking to is the God Almighty, the pain looks bigger to us than the Lord. Our self and our own survival becomes more bigger than the Lord.
The Lord gives the simple answers "you are worried and bothered about so many things" and "Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?". The four important words in Lord's responses are worry, bother about many things, afraid and Little faith. We know our feelings and emotions, and we know the times when we are feeling any of these.
Jesus Christ knows that we Believers do go through all of these and He gives us the confirmation that He is the Lord by "the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm" and "only one thing is necessary" and it is Him.
Wonderful. I had begun writing something about Mary and Martha myself but Deepa you have said so much in so few words.
"Our self and our own survival becomes more bigger than the Lord." - this is a painful-but-true definition of our earthly worries, and one to be kept in mind, I think.
Thank you for this shining pearl of wisdom.
