A Hand Helping The Brethren Stand?

I Corinthians 10: 12 - “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take that he does not fall. (NASB)

This verse and song at the end have been on my heart for days. The transliteration of 'stands' in Greek is Histemilt. It means to stand, put in place, or set - typically before others. A clear warning given requires us daily to genuinely 'stand' before God and allow His Holy Spirit to illuminate area(s) which require yielding to the power of Christ. Why?

Easy answer, if not done the likelihood of falling into the sin or temptation is 99.9%. What do we need to return to our feet? Certainly cry out to God. Pleading He will restore us in an upright position. As simple as this may sound; this is not always the case. Look at the verses which follow:

I Cor. 10: 13, 14 - “No temptation has overtaken you which but as such is common to man; and God is faithful, Who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape, so that you will be able to endure it. Therefore, my beloved, flee idolatry. (NASB)

The item evident though God provides a way of escape, sin can grasp and hold starting a vicious cycle. In the power Christ's blood and washing by the Holy Spirt, it maybe broken. Verse 14 indicates any sin fallen into and ensnared equates to idolatry. We place it, though not consciously as worshiped above God Himself. Repentance and liberation in Christ is a necessity.

As consequences occur, it becomes easy to think there is no way we can help, beginning to believe they reap what is sown. (Gal. 6:7) God forbid! Now we sit idol in hand, believing though unconsciously, in a better standing with the Lord. There are now two people entangled in a horrible web of sin, requiring Divine intervention. God does not rank order sin, man does. Both now place sin as an idol above the Lord. It does not matter if my sin entangled is drugs and yours is gossip. Sin is sin. Falling into judgmental self-righteousness does not restore the fallen. The dogma results in the one in 'rightness,' begins devloping hardness of heart thinking 'at least I do not'...

The imperative, if a brother or sister falls into a sin? We witness and see the horrendous trap and brutal cycle, now weakened in sinful repettion . Obviously prayer for their restoration is deemed. We are good right? No. As someone who fights, though often falling into the area of weakness. What is my desire? Someone to just be the in the pit with me, God is. A friend to help walk and even used to guide me out.

Listen, pray, if and when asked; offer words of love in care chosen and placed inside directly from the heart of God. When in a dark hole like Joseph, I can lose sight God is there, even hearing His voice of love and comfort. Offer yourself as a living sacrifice to God and for them (Rom. 12: 1 , 2 ). Being willing and available, to bear anothers burdens to restore in gentleness and love (Gal. 6:1, 2). Become Christ to me or them, to help see and be God's voice used in rescue.

This song was written and sung shortly before Keith Green died in 1982. In playing the introduction to 'Open Your Eyes' he said, “It is so easy to write a check, it is so easy; but God can't cash out of state checks in heaven, He needs you” . The call, be Christ's body, hands, and feet. God 'needs' you or more accurately stated, desires to show His greatness in the Holy Spirt through you. Rejoice and embrace the honor!

Unashamed, let me say I need you! Be Christ's hands, feet, and voice when I cannot see, feel, or hear. In doing, you not only minster and lift me up, you do so to Jesus. What an inconceivable honor and privilege to touch the heart of Christ! Jesus says, 'What you have done to the least of these brethren of mine, you have done unto me' (Matt. 25:40). May I take this to heart, greater than all!

As God is glorified and lifted up, may His blessing, light, and face shine upon you forevermore. In Jesus Mighty name, Amen.

We need a little less taking a whole lot more giving ... Jesus says when we love someone, in His name we are loving Him, Jesus says when we feed someone in His Name we are feeding Him, and Jesus says when we reach someone, in His name, He feels, it's all for Him, it's all for Him ... So we have got to go out in His name, Jesus says, Jesus says, Jesus say it's Him, Jesus says when we love one someone, in His name, we are loving Him. © Melody Green
