Matt. 5:6 - "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."
Think of a time where you had to go without food for a day or longer. Or a time where you were restricted by diet to eat only a certain amount and felt unsatisfied. When reading the scripture above the appropriate question to ask ourselves; do we really hunger and thirst for righteousness? Is my desire to know God and His ways so strong I truly hunger and thirst for them?
Or does my flesh say it is better to do the things I want to do? Born with a sin nature disposed to do things my way not God's way, true disposition of heart apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is my way is better than God's. This was original sin … to be as god. Do it our way. Our desire and wants are of the flesh, Satan, the prince of the air.
What is the remedy? Only by the power of Christ and His Spirit can we come to Him as Lord and Savior daily; dying to self we are true disciples. To take up our cross and follow Him, die to live not follow personal wishes and desires.
Matt. 10:38 - "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me."
This is the essence of The Lord's prayer. Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on earth (and in my life) as it is in heaven. Are my thoughts, words, actions, and prayers being changed daily from help me with this or bless this work too … what is your will Lord?
Right at this moment I ask God through His Spirit to show the true hunger and thirst spiritually residing deep within our spirit and soul. Hungry people know they will die if they do not eat. People dead resting in the flesh do not realize their deep hunger and thirst. They are dead.
Only a true work of God by the Holy Spirit enlightens of the dire need to eat of the Bread and drink of the Water of Life. So how do I go from setting mind on the indwelling flesh and sin nature to the Spirit? Praise God for providing the ability daily to die to flesh and live to Him, in Christ Jesus. What amazing love!
Rom. 7:24 - Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Through God's unmerited love and grace, the wrath deservedly poured out on me a sinner was satisfied in the Father being pleased to crush His Son in my place. This side of heaven, the truly vile nature of sin and death residing inside apart from Christ will only be seen in glimpses provided by the Holy Spirit. My sin, God's righteous wrath, lack of hunger, and thirst for Jesus as the Bread and Water of life placed Him on Calvary.
I pray and ask God to show me and you the desperate daily need to come. Eat and drink freely of the Bread and Water of Life. Then heart and soul will be truly satisfied, filled to overflowing by the Author and Word of Life Himself.
John 6:35 - "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst."
