Lam. 3:1, 2, 4, 8, 11 - I am the man who has seen affliction … He has driven me and made me walk In darkness and not in light … He has caused my flesh and my skin to waste away … … Even when I cry out and call for help, He shuts out my prayer … He has turned aside my ways and torn me to pieces; He has made me desolate.
Jeremiah, writing of the Holy Spirit most certainly was lamenting, or "crying out" to make sense of suffering shared and endured from Israel's Babylonian captivity. God allows him and the chosen people to become desolate. Even petition and prayers are closed. (Lam. 3:8, 10)
Certainly, the sins of the generations are being visited upon all of Israel. Why does Jeremiah and those who remain faithful to the Lord walk crooked and bitter paths? (Lam. 3:9, 15)
Now, if really honest questions why and anger towards God rise in heart and mind. What is my sin to repent? If lacking faith, it is a gift from You. Please provide it in Christ and restore favor! I see other Christians rescued from calamity and trouble. Do you love them more than me?
Why have You rejected my peace, strength, and hope in You? It has all died? Where are You God?
Lam. 3:17, 18 - My soul has been rejected from peace; I have forgotten happiness. So I say, “My strength has perished, And so has my hope from the Lord.”
Searching and reading, I hear other Christians say God will see me through. Talking of faith and hope, they quote passages and verses while sounding hollow, trite, and pedantic. How easy to say things as Job's friends when not utterly crushed. The preacher and teacher say to wait patiently and trust in the Lord. In the storm, I am so afraid. The true friend merely prays and is there walking with me.
Asking You to calm heart. It continues to melt from affliction no human can touch and "nothing more can be done." My only hope is You! With prayers closed and heart aching, I hear nothing! You say if suffering a little while, strength and confirmation will come. How long is a little while? Some suffer their whole earthly life. Do you not care?
I Pet. 5:10 - After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace …will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
Oh Lord, I do not understand! It is true, Your ways are beyond comprehension. Lord Jesus, help me in my unbelief. You are mindful I am but dust. Lord, remember my infirmity and sourness of soul bowed down inside me. I remember your lovingkindness, compassion, and faithfulness. In this I have hope! Your mercies new each day keep from being consumed. Feeling such, am I not recalling them? (Lam. 3: 19, 21- 24)
Lord, You say it is good to wait silently for salvation. How do I do this, when all inside is cries out? It is good to endure these things when young but I am old. How do I do? I am to sit alone and be silent presenting myself to You. Maybe hope does exist though all has been allowed to happen. Permitting grief, You are compassionate and filled with love. You do not afflict to simply crush. (Lam. 3: 26 - 34)
Who speaks and it comes to pass? It is from God's very mouth, consenting both good and bad to occur.
Lam 3: 37, 38 - Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, Unless the Lord has commanded it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That both good and ill go forth?
No man may offer grievance considering sin of a lifetime. Examine course while lifting heart and hands in praise to God! You remain covered and prayers do not reach You, when transgression and doubt of heart remain. Panic, devastation, and destruction surrounds. Tears pour like a raging river day and night. What is seen adds weight upon weight to soul. I am drowning and completely alone! Who will save me? (Lam. 3: 39 - 51)
You remind me, the Lord of Hosts looks down from heaven. Call His Name, hearing cry from the greatest depths. The Lord replies "Do not fear." You Lord Jesus, drawing near beseeched The Father and redeemed my life. (Lam. 3: 50, 55 - 58).
Lam. 3:58 - O Lord, You have pleaded my soul's cause; You have redeemed my life.
Though mountain's fall into the sea, body and mind continue wasting away as other Christians think:
"Who sinned, this man or his father for such troubles to overtaken him?"
Let me never forget, Christ the Lord came to save not to condemn. Jesus proclaimed good news, release, renewal of spiritual sight, and freedom to all. The Spirit of the Lord is upon Him, giving life for my eternal birth. Let the "good and bad" of this world fade from view beholding the Lamb slain. Filled with love in eyes, hands, and side come to claim, make clean, and hold forever with the Father. (John 3, Luke 4)
Heb. 10:14 - For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
Lord, as the heroes of faith waited for something better and to be perfected with us through our Savior. Perfect and bind up this broken hearted seeker of You.
Heb. 4:16 - Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
