Phil. 3:7 - But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
All people experience loss. Some more than others, but no one is immune. Some things suffered as loss are much greater than others. The interesting perspective Paul has upon loss is how it compares to life in Christ. Counting all things he thought of favorably and gain in the face of Christ.
Phil. 3:8 - What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
Additionally, the second aspect of how Paul views loss; I am not there yet though wanting the Spirit get me to this point. Everything Paul achieved and possessed in life is deemed rubbish. When compared to the knowledge of the Savior.
My soul (mind, will and emotions), still reaches and grasps for things slipping away or already gone. Even though God's word clearly states I must consider losing everything nothing versus gaining life in Christ. 'Lord, sometimes it is so hard to let go of what I can see, hear, and touch … and trust You exceed anything I could ever know on this earth. It is especially there when having great difficulty seeing and hearing you.
Lord please help in my unbelief! To see what may be gone is so I might be made righteous through being clothed in Christ. Based on faith in the Lamb of God, not anything achieved in human strength. So I might know the power of the resurrection of the dead in my life on earth today! And the incomparable, overcoming, and overwhelming power of God.
Phil. 3:10 - I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
All while being made into the likeness of Christ through the sharing in His suffering, death, and resurrection.' I am to press on down this path when strong or weak. To imagine nothing on this earth comes close to a resurrected life. These words are easy to read and say but the cost of experiencing them is everything known. Ensure all lost or losing is in and for Christ. Otherwise the loss begins to seem empty and without meaning. It must be in Him to achieve kingdom purpose.
'Help me Lord to remain faithful and resolute in pressing forward to Your high calling in Christ Jesus. Lord, help me to realize life in Christ is not about getting and blessings. Yes, we get your promises and power of the Spirit. On this earth it means being willing to be willing to lose everything. All to know Christ and His resurrection, while lifting Him high for the whole world to see. He is the Light and life of the world. To be lifted high so others are drawn to Him.'
Gal. 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
