Snipitz - a white christmas

€œIm dreaming of a white Christmas..

Just like the ones I used to know.

Where the tree tops glisten and

Children listen

To hear sleigh bells in the snow.€

I have always enjoyed this song. I love to hear it and sing along. It brings back incredible memories of the white snow flakes making there way to the ground, covering the dead winter grass in a blanket of white fluffy snow.

It meant Christmas.

But for one Christmas season a long time ago€.

It meant that I could make it snow on demand.

Or at least that is how it seemed to me.

To my mother and father it must have seemed like a nightmare.

I must have been 7 or 8 years old and I wanted it to snow so bad€so I started singing white Christmas, and it snowed!

I sang it again a couple days later€and it snowed again.

I kept repeating this ritual and with alarming regularity it would snow EVERY time I sang the song.

With about a week to go before HO HO HO day, the first crack began to show in my moms armor. I would start to sing€the snow would start to fall€and moms eye would start to twitch.

It was at this time the ultimatum was thrown down. €œSing it again and there will be no snow left for Christmas and then Santa cant come.€

Talk about a bummer.

I was having fun, Moms eye twitch was getting more pronounced and that alone was good for a chuckle or two.

But, I could not risk the chance of the Big Guy not visiting my house. And so, on Christmas eve I was allowed to sing it again, and I had not lost my magic€.I stood there looking out the dining room window singing as the snow began to fall and a white Christmas was there for all.

I wouldnt understand for years how much all that snow affected everyone. I did not understand about driving conditions, frostbite or weight loads (the amount of wet snow a roof can take before it began to sag and then give out)

Al l I thought about was how beautiful it looked as the large multi-colored Christmas lights reflected perfectly in on the new fallen sheet of white. I also wanted to sled, to feel the rush of excitement as I sped down what ever incline my sled and I could find.

It is not like that for me now. I have never again been able to make it snow by singing a song. I worry more about getting the shopping done, about snow tires and how long it was going to take me to get to work, and I have started to forget that Christmas means Christ. Years of retail tend to harden even the most Christ like soul.

I know all of this and yet€..I miss the youthful freedom found in fresh snow, and of the unlimited possibilities that come with it. Sledding, snow ball fights, and snow angels. I want to get back to focusing on what Christmas is really all about.

It is about the birth of our savior Jesus Christ, it is about family and fellowship and love.

This Christmas season we have been blessed by great friends and wonderful family. God has made sure that our needs are met and that we have gifts under the tree.

This year I am saying thanks to all of you for being with us this year, for putting smiles on our faces, for lighting up a room with your presence, and by keeping Christ in Christmas.

May God bless you this Christmas, with good food, good friends, great family and a white Christmas wherever you are€€

Oh, and if you need help I can call and sing White Christmas for you€..

If you have not guessed the song today is White Christmas written by Irving Berlin.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

great version by 4Him.

In the interests of getting into the 'Christmas spirit' I watched "White Christmas" this afternoon! I can't honestly say that it did a lot for the mental preparation. It is hot and we have a drought . I had 16 years in the UK and never experienced snow at Christmas time. I discovered your blog tonight and God has just reminded me that what ever the weather (circumstances), he never changes.
