How many times have we heard this? I may not be perfect but i am not as bad as so and so, it's so easy to compare ourselves in light of others behavior, it even makes us feel good and will even give us a sense of peace where there really is no peace. I was watching a video the other day on youtube, about criminals that had it "coming to em" they were killed while commiting the crime or they were beaten to death in prison or hanged etc. What really caught my attention were some of the comments that were made,. comments like, oh yeah they are burning in hell, karma caught up to em, yada yada yada and so on and so forth. You could probably ask anyone you know if they thought they would be capable of doing the things Hitler did and im sure all would tell you no, What about charles manson or jeffrey dahmer? maybe you would even get a "i cant believe you would ask such a thing" truth is this: if it were not for the restraining power of the Holy Spirit any person would be capable of anything. Without Christ our hearts are bent toward evil, slaves to sin, and children of wrath, not many commit the things of some of the above that i mentioned but dont think for a moment that they are not capable. If a person compares themselves with others behaviors they are only decieving themselves thinking they are somehow good. Luke 13:5 says "unless you repent, you will all likewise parish" if you read this account, Jesus is telling the people "dont compare yourself with others" . if you have even had an impure thought you have broken the law and therefore stand condemned before God. Wow thats harsh!. Maybe to you and I but the almighty God has set the standard for holiness, but the good news is this, Jesus christ, His son, took the punishment for sin that was commited under the law, He died and rose again and only through Him will we be saved from the wrath of God that is to come, Turn to Him in repentance and faith and know that He and He only can set you free from sin and give you a new life by his Holy Spirit, by this salvation we are no longer under the law but under grace, then instead our heart bent toward evil, it will be bent toward righteousness, instead of slaves to sin we will be slaves of righteousness, and rather than children of wrath, we will be called children of God. May the God of all grace richly bless all my brothers and sisters in Christ.
It is amazing how the "nicest people" behave when there anarchy due to political upheaval, war, natural disaster, etc or when a government endorses and even encourages evil.
The truth is, every single one of us is capable of doing far more evil than what we might believe. It is why God had to institute law and thanks to modern technology most if not all of us have seen what happens when there is no law. Take Somalia for example...
Thank God for His love, mercy and grace!
Remember the old saying ... "Some of the nicest people you will ever meet will fill H***. Non-Christians do not want a just/righteous God also embodied as a loving God
