Today I received a permit to hike and camp across the Grand Canyon from the South Rim to the North Rim and back. I am so excited! I have only seen pictures of the canyon and I believe it is a beautiful place. I am going to take 4 days to do this hike so I can take it all in.
I do not think that the Colorado river made this gigantic hole in the earth. Rather it was created during the flood in Noah's day. Rivers can cause a lot of erosion but I have yet to see where all the dirt went? I will be looking. During the flood the soil could go anywhere but a river . It will be down stream.
I stay in good shape with my running but will have to train for this hike. I will start by doing some hikes up and down hills. Hey I live in Tennessee, we have lots of hills. I would not think twice about running 14 miles but have never walked it to my knowledge. Each day in the canyon I will be hiking around 14 miles. Later I will be training with a pack on my back.
I bet that I will see God every where I look in the canyon. I believe that it would be nice if I had someone to share this trip with but they would have to be in good shape too. Right now I will be praying for the right person. My Sweetheart would have loved this trip. I do a lot of things on my own so I am game to go this solo. I like to share.
I am very thankful to The Lord that I am able to take this trip. He has been so good to me. I still wish He hadn't taken my wife away from me but He did. She is running the streets of gold and I will be one of these days. Until then I am hiking across the Grand Canyon!
AMAZING!!!! Oh I can't wait to hear about it! My first thought (besides HOW IN THE WORLD...???...) is what a great opportunity for some incredible pictures! (I like photography)...I've never been so will have to live vicariously through your blogs...I'm feeling envy..not just because you get to do it...but because you are in shape enough to even consider it! haha...bless you- I really can't wait to hear about it. What a wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity!! I'm happy for you. The momma OCD side of me is thinking of a long list of "be carefuls " but I'm sure you're old enough to take care of yourself. Will pray that you find a hiking buddy not only for company but safety too! I would imagine there will be an air difference in those climbs to adjust to?
Wow! Awesome! What a great adventure this will be!
Please be well prepared for the dangers you might encounter. As beautiful as it is it has it's dangers as well.
Did you know John Abela is an avid hiker ? Maybe you could interest him in joining you. Just a thought.
Praying you find someone to go with you and that it will be a remarkable journey.
Wish you the best as you train and visit the G Canyon, as others have said; keep us posted.
I have only visited the Grand Canyon once and it was a "quick" trip. I was 17 and we were visiting my aunt who lived in Phoenix at the time. We decided to drive up there for a quick day trip and went to the North Rim. It is beautiful!
Enjoy your trip!
I know your Sweetheart was with you in your heart every step of the way...
And I blame the devil for taking her, not the Lord.
I'm hoping there's another blog about the trip...
blessings, and blest
