There have been several blogs about new year's resolutions. I've mentioned in at least one of them that I don't do new year's resolutions as I'm a rather impulsive ahemmmm....I mean flexible person. People like me do not generally do things like lists, detailed long-term plans, mission goals, etc. This doesn't mean we don't make plans. We do...sort of. Those of you who are of the efficient, detail-oriented, organized persuasion would not recognize them as such but we do have hastily scribbled on scraps of paper and various materials scattered about in our minds. We know where everything is up there and can lay our hands on it if necessary. We just march to the beat of a different drum.
Of course, since saying that, I've come across the perfect new year's resolution for me. I like this one because it is reusable. I won't ever have to get another one again. I don't even have to make a file for it. I just wrote it on one of my pink stickies and stuck it right on my computer monitor...yeah, the same monitor with the pink boxing gloves on it.
Here it is in nice big letters...
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)
Just imagine for a moment what would happen if that became the new year's resolution of every Christ-Follower.
Okay, it is pretty hard to imagine but I'm sure you'll agree that our lives and the world around us would be very different if we truly put these words into practice. Impossible? For us on our own? Absolutely! For the Christ who dwells within us? Absolutely not!
So there you have it. My new year's resolution for 2009 and forever.
