Bearing With One Another In Love

Ephesians 4:2 - Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (New International Version)

I found myself cringing just a bit when I read those words just a bit ago. Why? Because I realized that just a short time before I had not been doing that. We are told to be humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love but instead I had been impatient and even frustrated with a fellow follower of Christ.

It is easy to be humble, gentle, patient and loving with brothers and sisters when we agree with one another. We walk along happily together, supporting and encouraging one another. Oh how good it is to be in fellowship with others.

Then we bump into a brother or sister who has a different opinion from ours. We agree on the things that matter the most. We agree that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We agree that there is only one way to be saved and that is through Jesus Christ. However, we find ourselves focusing on what we disagree on rather than what we agree on and before you know it we forget all about Ephesians 4:2. Instead of doing what we ought to do we are fighting with one another.

Sigh... do you know how uncomfortable it is to read Ephesians 4:2 when you have your boxing gloves on or your sword drawn or um... both? If you don't know, trust me. This is something you do not want to know!

As much as I would sometimes like to sweep Ephesians 4:2 under the rug or stuff it into the closet or set it outside on the doorstep of my heart, God won't let me. You see, my ignoring it will not make it go away. I need to listen to what the Word of God tells me in Ephesians 4:2.

Is it always easy for me to follow? No it is not but then that is why I need a Savior!

May we all learn to obey Ephesians 4:2.

Blessings!

O this is such a powerful reminder of why each of us needs a Savior, K :princess: ! Thank God for His merciful goodness, His love, and His forgiveness. A "much needed" blog. Thank you.

You are so right. The world loves those that loves them. They are at peace with those that agree with them. It is the difference that makes use different, and that is who we are in Christ. Thanks for this word. It is so true. I have found if I am not sure of what I believe and someone comes against me I tend to become defensive and angry and engage in fighting. I just had that happen a bit with the Gifts of the Spirit, this lead me to a study and will result in a blog series down the road. thanks for the word
