Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped. And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:20-21
He'd had everything this world had to offer. He was rich, he was powerful, he had a large family which appears to have lived harmoniously. Best of all, the Bible tells us
that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. Job 1:1bThis isn't an opinion, folks. This is what the Word of God says. Job is a prime example of what our relationship with God should look like. In Job 1:8 God Himself, not someone else but God Himself says
Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
So what happens to the man whom God calls perfect and upright? What happens to this man whom God said feared Him and avoided evil? He lost everything. God actually gave the enemy permission to do so.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. Job 1:12and then God gave the enemy permission to destroy Job's health but refused to grant permission for Job's life to be taken.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. Job 2:6
I am always overwhelmed by Job's response. He blesses the Lord. Whereas many would have cursed God, he recognizes that everything he has comes from God. God has the right to give... and He also has the right to take away as He deems fit.
It is so easy to praise God in the good times. It is so easy but can you praise Him in the bad times? Can you praise Him when you watch your material possessions vanish, your marriage fail or relationships crumble? Can you praise Him when you've lost your job and you are losing your home? What if you lose your health? Will you shake your fist in anger at God if He doesn't do things your way in your time or will you be like Job and say
the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. Job 1:21b
Amen.. when my world falls yet will I praise him
despite it all yet I will sing
through good or bad, still I will praise him
For he remains the same, King of Kings.. ( voice of truth, Hillsong).
I Pray that when trials revisit me that I will be able to say.. Blessed be your name.
It is only by faith we can say The Lord has given and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord!
I love this song!
