But The Sun Is Shining!

The temperature dropped below zero last night, 0 degrees Fahrenheit that is. Sigh...

During the long, cold Minnesota winter, one must learn to be optimistic. "It could be worse" or "We are one day closer to spring" are common Minnesota winter phrases. Looking beyond the here and now is necessary when it is -20F!

It is currently -3F/-19C with a windchill of -14F/-25C. I must admit that I found myself sighing a bit over that as I must head out in an hour or so. A few days ago I saw some patches of grass but today they have vanished. As I gazed out the window, however, my eyes were drawn to the cloudless blue sky that was being lit up by the rising sun. As the sun slowly rose, it's beams stretched between my house and my neighbor's throwing a crimson glow on the strip of woods behind my home. I can't see the sunrise from where I am sitting but I do see the effects of it and I always love watching how the early morning sun transforms the woods regardless of the time of year.

I am reminded of several things this morning. First of all, it is easy to get fixated on what is negative in my life. While I must be realistic about my present situation, I must also look up and around me. I must strive to look at the bigger picture and I must look for the light of Jesus Christ in it. When I do so, I will see how my circumstances are transformed by the light.

Blessings!
