Isaiah 40:29 - He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. (New Living Translation)
In recent years, I have become increasingly aware of the fact that I am weak and vulnerable, not just in regards to my health but mentally and emotionally as well. In my younger days I was ready to tackle anything and "seize the day".
Do I still have those moments? Of course I do and I hope I always do! It's just that nowadays I am less reliant on self and more reliant on the help of others... especially and above all, God's.
It is only when we are confronted with our own weakness, our own inability, our own limitations that we come to understand and appreciate Isaiah 40:29. The ones who are weak and powerless are none other than us!
Yesterday, I watched a large and powerful-looking man with his little girl who could not have been any more than two years old. They were in the parking lot at the zoo and I watched how he hovered over his little daughter, tenderly watching over her and helping her. To tell you the truth, it brought tears to my eyes as I thought about what would happen if anyone or anything tried to harm his little girl. He would put himself in danger's way and even fight to the death to protect her. Has not God done exactly that same thing for us?
That little girl was not very powerful nor was she very strong and yet in reality she was. You see, she wasn't relying on her own power and strength. She was relying on the power and strength of her father. Are we?

What a beautiful picture and reminder! I think sometimes it is easy for me to "look down" on myself when I feel weak...but we are all weak and we all need a Saviour and a daily helping hand. We cannot deny our weakness...for even when we "feel strong" it is strength that is not our own! Thank you for the reminder that He is ever "hovering" over us to guide, protect, shield, and ENABLE.
