Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (New International Version 1984)- Joshua 1:9
Have you ever noticed this is not a suggestion? It is a command. God commands us to be strong and courageous. He commands us to not be terrified. He commands us to not be discouraged. Why? The answer is simple. The Lord our God will be with us wherever we go. It does not say might be or that He will set a timer and when it goes "ding", He will abandon us. It says that God will be with us wherever we go. Do we really believe this?
There are times when it is easy for us to forget this. We allow fear to terrorize us and we become discouraged. When we do, we fail to be strong and courageous. I had such an episode happen to me last week. I forgot about how faithful God has always been and instead I looked at the "giant" looming in front me and panicked. Sigh...
I am glad that God is very, very patient with me. He remembers that I am but dust and that I am a living in a dark and dangerous world. Sometimes I am going to feel helpless and afraid but... I don't have to stay there.
I can remember what God says and cling to His promises. I can choose to trust in Him rather than believe in the lies of the enemy. When I do, I will suddenly discover that God has been right there beside me, just like He said I'd be... and I don't have to be afraid.
A speck of dust, surrounded by all kinds of dangers, clinging to a dark, spinning rock hurtling thru frozen space. Yes, I think we need some assistance. Only a maniac could possibly think he has "got it all covered" - bibleguy64
