Do You Want To Be Where God Is?

Over the past few days, the words to a song by Don Moen have been running through my head.

I Just Want To Be Where You Are

I just want to be where You are,
dwelling daily in Your presence
I don't want to worship from afar,
draw me near to where You are

I just want to be where You are,
in Your dwelling place forever
Take me to the place where You are,
I just want to be with You

I want to be where You are,
dwelling in Your presence
Feasting at Your table,
surrounded by Your glory
In Your presence,
that's where I always want to be
I just want to be,
I just want to be with You

I just want to be where You are,
to enter boldly in Your presence
I don't want to worship from afar,
draw me near to where You are

You know, often when we sing songs such as this we get a picture in our mind of heaven. Everything is nice and bright, angels are singing praises, we're all dressed in spotless white robes which are so bright our eyes are dazzled. Ah... It is easy to sing about being where God is when that the image projected.

But... what if God is on a path marked with suffering and sorrow? What if God is on a path marked by persecution or betrayal by friends and family? (Luke 21:12-17). Are we quite as quick to say, "I want to be where you are."? For me, this is a very sobering question and one which I think we need to take the time to ask ourselves. If we really want to be where God is then we must be willing to go wherever He goes... no matter what!

Blessings!
