Earlier today, I smiled as I caught sight of the Daily Bible Verse here at CB. It is a passage I am very familiar with. In fact, I have a framed copy of this passage hanging above my desk.
I have often turned to the fourth chapter of Second Corinthians over the years when I have faced difficult times. In December 2007, right after I learned that I had a tumor which fairly screamed, "I'm cancer!" (and it was), I was wandering around a Christian bookstore.
My eye fell upon a little paperback NLT Bible. The proceeds from the sale of this Bible were going toward breast cancer research, so I bought it.
I remember going out to my car and turning once again to that old familiar friend, 2 Corinthians 4. As I read however, these words fairly jumped off the page at me:
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Regardless of our circumstances, we must never forget that they will not last forever. Compared to eternity they are but one brief moment in time and will soon be gone. Rather, we must fix our eyes on the things which are eternal.
Never, ever give up!
I remember you sharing this with me when I found out I had cancer along with another little piece that ended in "Where I am God is."
They have been a blessing to me and I had the opportunity to share them with another who has cancer.
