In a previous blog entitled But The Lord Is With You, I wrote about how Joseph's dreams had turned into a nightmare. Betrayed and sold into slavery by his own brothers and carried off into a foreign country, he did his best to live a godly life. He rose to the highest position of authority in his master's house only to be falsely charged by a woman whose advances he had rejected and as a result, he was thrown into prison. At this point the one might be tempted to think, "So much for doing the right thing!"
In an instant, however, Joseph's circumstances changed once again. At the right moment "the rains" came. He had faithfully served God where he was and now the time had come for the promise to be fulfilled. Whever Joseph, the former slave and prisoner went, the command was shouted, "Kneel down!" (Genesis 42:43)
It was during this time that Joseph married and had two sons. Genesis 42:52 says:
Joseph named his second son Ephraim for he said, "God has made me fruitful in this land of my suffering.
God had made Joseph fruitful, even in the Land of Suffering. Like Joseph, we too can be fruitful, even in the Land of Suffering. It requires us to remain faithful and cling to God's promises...no matter what.
