It was very busy at the "mega" grocery store on that morning about 20 years ago. It was before the holiday season. We were going to hosting dinner for a lot of people, having overnight guests and that sort of thing. My husband and I were engrossed in a discussion about all we needed to do after getting groceries.

Suddenly both of us froze in our tracks at the sound of a high-pitched cry of agony. MAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMAAAAAAAA! It was the unmistakable sound of a lost child but this was not just any lost child. It was OUR lost child. Without looking around, despite all of the noise of tired children around us, we recognized the cry of our child and immediately, nothing else mattered. Our child was lost!

We both screamed out his name and found him several aisle away. As any parent knows, we were too relieved to scold him for wandering away. Instead, we caught him up in our arms, relieved that our precious son had been found and was safe in our arms.

What had happened? Instead of staying beside us, my son was distracted by something which he wandered over to look at. Then without paying attention, instead of continuing down the aisle, which would have brought him to us, he went the other way thinking that we were that direction. He had gone down the wrong aisle.

We too have a Heavenly Father whom we sometimes do not follow as closely as we should. We get enticed and distracted by other things and instead of keeping our eyes on Him, our attention gets drawn elsewhere. Then we may head off looking for Him but we are going the wrong way. We suddenly discover we don't know where He is.

While God always "knows" exactly where we are, if we cry out, we can be confident that He will hear us. He will immediately be right at our side... ready to lead us back to where we belong... with Him.

Love this story! How true it is -all we need do is cry out and our Heavenly Father will hear us.
He will never leave us or forsake us even when we stray from His side.
