Drifts of snow are everywhere. The sun is struggling to break through the clouds. A cold wind is blowing and there are some flurries in the air. It doesn't "look" like Easter. It looks like a dreary winter morning. However, looks can be deceiving.
Today is the day we set aside to specifically remember the resurrection of Jesus. People argue about when it actually occurred as well as to which grave is the empty tomb. None of that matters to me. The important thing to me is the knowledge that death could not hold him! The grave could not hold him! Nothing could stop him! He is alive, now and forevermore! [bible]1 Corinthians 15:55[/bible] Paul writes: [bible]1 Corinthians 15:3-8[/bible]
I am also much more interested in where Jesus lives rather than where he was temporarily laid. Not only is he at the right hand of the Father as our advocate. [bible]Hebrews 12:2[/bible]He also can live within us.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:10-11It doesn't stop there. We have that "great expectation" that Jesus will come again and we will dwell with him forever.
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance-an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 1 Peter 1:3-4
Hallelujah! What a Savior! Christ, the Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!
Calls to mind the triumphant Christian hymn written by Charles Wesley in 1739 which most of us know a few verses to. Here is the entire amazing hymn for our blessing on this special day.
Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!
Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun's eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!
Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
Hail, the Lord of earth and Heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection, thou, Alleluia!
King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!
Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!
But the pains that He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He's King, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!
Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!
The Enemy has been defeated;
And Death couldn't hold you down!
We're guna lift our voice in victory,
We're guna make your praises loud!
