As I sit here looking out the window, I can see that the snow is nearly gone from my backyard. However, the winds are picking up as dark clouds roll in. Less than 100 miles north of me, there is a blizzard warning and while we will not have a blizzard warning, snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. The temperatures are about to dip down below freezing again... even though the calendar says "spring". Sigh... welcome to my world!
It has been a long winter. We got our first snow on November 13th and we have had snow cover ever since. We had a brief thaw the end of February. Last week, the thaw began in earnest. When I left home on March 11th, my entire yard was buried under several feet of snow. When I returned home, patches of grass was returning. There are still strips of snow in my yard and of course... my infamous snowbank. LOL!
There will not be much melting going on today, I am afraid. The rain helped but we are supposed to start getting light snow this afternoon and more tomorrow. I have no doubt that it will still be here on Thursday when we mark our 20th week of snow on the ground.
I've been watching sparrows this winter, from my window. Yes, these delicate-looking little birds actually stay in Minnesota over the winter. You would think that they would quickly vacate the place in the fall but they don't. They are much hardier than they look and you see... God made them able to withstand the harsh Minnesota winter and He also provides for them. Jesus confirms by saying:
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Fathers care. Matthew 10:29 (NIV)
Jesus goes on to say:
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So dont be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:30-31Even when we are enduring the "winter", His eye is on the sparrow and I know He's watching me... and He is watching you!
You O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Ps. 18:28
