This morning, a beloved hymn called, "I Need Thee Every Hour" has been going around and around inside my head.
When I looked up the words, I found a quote by the lyricist, Annie Hawks. One day as a young wife and mother of 37 years of age, I was busy with my regular household tasks. Suddenly, I became so filled with the sense of nearness to the Master that, wondering how one could live without Him, either in joy or pain, these worlds, I Need Thee Every Hour," were ushered into my mind, the thought at once taking full possession of me.
So often we talk about needing Him when we are in pain. However, what about when our lives are filled with joy? Interestingly enough, that is when we are most likely to set God aside. We get wrapped up with our own lives and pursuits and God can become an after thought or no thought at all! Then when our circumstances change, we rush about looking for God again.
Is this to say we should NOT cry out to God in our time of need? Absolutely not!
I am simply trying to remind us, especially me, is that we ALWAYS need God! We most certainly need God during our most difficult times. We need God to be with us in the storms. However, we also need God when we are sailing full speed ahead on smooth water. He is our Captain and we need Him with us every step of the way. Let's not forget it! I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.
I need Thee, O I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
O bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
Yes! We do need Him every hour. I love the intimacy of being in His presence - to soak in it during my quiet time. His love is tangible and the fullness of joy is so real (Psalm 16:11). Thank you for this blog - it makes me want to seek Him even more! God bless you K...
