Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT)Jesus Christ is our life! If you have ever stood on the precipice looking down at death, you understand how easy it is to be filled with overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, fear and despair. You gulp, you cry out, your eyes dart about looking for an alternative. There must be a way of escape! Thoughts rush through your mind as you desperately try to come up with a solution. Then it seems like your mind suddenly goes into overload. It is too much to comprehend. At first you fought viciously against it but the enemy is to great. You feel helpless as the enemy attempts to grasp hold of your life.
Wait a minute! Your life is hidden with Christ in God! Christ is your life! It is impossible for your real life to be taken. I love how the New Living Translation phrases this:
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3 (NLT)
When I remember that my real life is hidden with Christ in God, when I remember Christ ismy life, hopelessness, fear and despair release their hold on me. They not only release me, they flee. I'm a visual person so I love to try to picture them getting tangled up and falling over each other as they try to escape the blinding light of the LORD GOD my deliverer! It's no use. They cannot escape from the fury of His sword.
My Beloved turns to me, the fury is gone from His eyes. Instead they burn with compassionate amazing love. Gently He picks me up and holds me in His arms. I have no reason to be overwhelmed by fear, hopelessness and despair. Jesus Christ has my real life and it cannot be snatched away from Him.
Amen sister. What a wonderful and simple truth that is so needed with all going on right now.
It is interesting to see the Spirit working to remind us of some of the most foundational and essential truths we should hold on to as Christians.
