Earlier today, my friend Alison Stewart (@kiwibird) reminded me that I only needed to trust God in "this moment". I don't have to look down the long road of "what ifs", "I don't knows" or "how wills". I just need to take God's hand and walk with Him in this moment until He leads me into the next moment.
In programs such as Weight Watchers and Alcoholics Anonymous, it is emphasized that if you look down the long, long road you will soon get discouraged and struggle. It is best to focus your energy on what you are doing in this moment. Eventually, one moment becomes two moments, than five moments, 10 moments, a hundred moments, and million moments and so on. You get the idea.
It is so tempting to focus on what is beyond this moment and when we do so, worry can set in. Trust cannot inhabit the same space as worry. Worry leads to fear and that is when we begin to sink. Remember Peter?
So, for one brief moment in time, can we dare to trust God completely? Since we have done it for one moment, surely we can do it for another, right? And another and another...
May we trust God just for a moment!
Is it really faith if you took your friend's advice and trusted God in the moment, but looked down the road and wondered about your future? Maybe you meant to say that you should have faith and trust in God TODAY and let TOMORROW worry about itself. As you know, you can also trust God and have faith in him for your future too even though you don't know what's lurking around the corner of your life. The wonderful news is God knows the future so you can trust Him for your TODAY, TOMORROW, and FOREVERMORE.
Amen and amen. Step by step, line by line, that's the way to trust God. Live one day at a time, day by day, week by week, month by month and then year by year, that's the best way to live without worrying too much for the next.
Thanks for sharing, Sister K.
