Earlier today I was pondering this question, "Have I made a difference in someone's life?" As Christians this is something we need to be actively pursuing. You see, our lives are not our own. We have committed our lives to Christ and Christ is all about making a difference in the lives of people. Are we?
There have been a number of people over the years who have made a difference in my life. Some of those people are right here at CB. Strangely enough, not a single one of these people felt that they had to preach a sermon at me but they have all been great listeners and encouragers. It seems like the world is in sore need of that. It seems like everywhere you turn you can find someone willing to "preach" at you but how many people are willing to be encouraging listeners?
Make a difference in someone's life. Take the time to stop talking and start listening and lend them a shoulder to lean on as the two of you walk together with God.
I remember in Girls Brigade one evening last year I was teaching the teenage girls. I asked them that same question and then turned it around. I asked them if there was anyone who had made a difference in their life and how did it make them feel.
One of the teenagers looked straight at me and said " yes, you have made a difference in my life and it makes me feel special"
needless to say I had no words only tears. But what I do pray is that it is Christ in me that has made the difference in her life. Ohh how I pray that is the case.
I read this through a couple of times and realised that by changing a few things in this passage I could get a tee shirt slogan!

"Stop Talking! Start Listening! Make a difference in someone else's life!" OR
"Make a difference...Listen, don't Talk!"
"God Listens, You Can Too!"
Errr...I think I just ran out of tee shirts!
Ooh, ooh! How about "Be a shoulder not a boulder!"
"Be a shoulder, not a boulder...just listen!"Sorry...orta stop now.
