Earlier today, Joyce Bethy Ferguson (@Bethy) and I were talking about favorite Christmas carols. No, The Ukrainian Bell Carol otherwise known as The Carol of the Bells is not my very favorite Christmas carol. I just thought it might get us thinking about a carol or carols which have meant a lot to us over the years.
Bethy shared with me a lovely carol which I was not familiar with called "Once In Royal David's City". I found it on YouTube and listened to it. What a lovely song!
Perhaps the words of a carol have spoken deeply to your heart. Perhaps you love the melody or the imagery. Perhaps God used the carol to touch you at a particular moment in your life when you needed to remember...
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:6,7 (NKJV) ]
I have no doubt that perhaps all of the above may be true.
I have written about a part of the story of my favorite Christmas carol on several occasions. Joy To The World has been my favorite Christmas Carol since I was a girl. I cannot help but wonder if God planted that seed in my heart knowing that there would be so many dark days over the past three years when I would desperately need to remember that Jesus is "The Joy-Bringer" and that my joy is not dependent on my circumstances... it is dependent on Christ Jesus!
