Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. (New International Version)- Psalm 30:4
In our day to day living, it is so easy to concentrate on our problems. When we do, we tend to forget about how God has blessed us. We forget about how He picked us up out of the mud, loved us, cleaned us up, gave us robes of righteousness and made us princes and princesses.
We forget about His amazing love, mercy and grace. We block out the times that God has delivered us, provided for us and blessed us in countless other ways. In short, instead of being centered on God we become centered on ourselves or as my cousin Diane would say, "We become self-centered rather than Christ-centered."
There is a very effective and rapid cure for this. You begin to praise the Lord. We all have our own special ways to offer up praise to God but what I like to do is this. I love to belt out (yes belt out) songs that declare who God is. For me this serves a dual purpose. First and foremost it is honoring God who above all others deserves all of our praise. It also serves as a reminder to me (and the enemy) that God is God and that He is worthy of all praise.
When we begin to praise God, we are immediately ushered into His presence and when we are in His presence well, all the "junk" has to flee. It is amazing how quickly everything is transformed when we simply take the time to sing the praises of God. So, ready... get set... sing!
