Earlier this afternoon I read a blog by Art Schnatterly (@aliveintheword) called Moving Is So Much More Than Changing Addresses . I looked at the picture and chuckled to myself. Just three days after we got married at the tender age of 20 (my husband turned 21 the next day), we packed up a little U-Haul trailer and headed off for the mountains of southeastern Tennessee for our final year of college. Classes would begin the following week so there was really no time for an actual "honeymoon". Besides... neither one of us had jobs down there waiting for us. We'd only learned that an apartment opened up for us in married student housing, five days before. The only money we had was what we had earned working two minimum wage jobs each, 12 hours a day. Both of us had managed to get a full time job for the summer and then for slightly higher pay, we cleaned office buildings for four hours a night. Those of you who remember 1981 know that it was not the best of times.
We were pitiful and probably out of our minds but we were oblivious to that fact so I guess it didn't matter. Besides... nearly 30 years later, we are still here. God had mercy and grace upon us!
As I looked at the picture Art posted in his blog, I smiled as I remembered our excitement at starting out life together. We'd spent most of our engagement living 200 miles apart so understandably we were ecstatic at the idea that there would be no more long distance calls. I know this will shock half the people reading this but long distance calls were rather pricey back then as well.
Remember how excited you were when you started walking with God? Are you still as excited? Truthfully, I hope you are even more excited!
I hope that with each passing day, you learn that life is an adventure when you walk with God. Yes, you will have ordinary days but... you are walking with an extraordinary God and you never know where He will take you.
Sometimes you might be tempted to balk at where God is leading you. It doesn't look right/feel right to you. You expected something far different then this. Dare to take the challenge. Dare to follow Jesus wherever He wants to lead you and if you do so, you will find yourself on an amazing journey! Remember, no matter how long you have been walking with God here in this world, you've only just begun.
You O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Ps. 18:28
Sister K, every seasons that the Lord brings us into will be a new adventure. Let's walk with Him, step by step, forward with His Cross. I am sure when we look back one day at the path that we have trod, we will be amazed and humbled at His grace.
Thanks for sharing
