But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7 (NLT)
Even when we were dead in our sins, God loved us so much and he is so rich in mercy that by His grace, we are saved. Ephesians 2:4 clearly indicates that because of God's great love for us, even when we were dead in our sins, extended toward us His mercy (not giving us what we deserve) and the incomparable riches of His grace (giving us what we do not deserve).
How God's heart must ache when He sees His love, mercy and grace spurned! I fear that even His children must grieve God deeply when they equate these things with the riches of this world!
The definition of incomparable is:
1: eminent beyond comparison : matchless 2: not suitable for comparison
God desires to give us more, so much more than this world has to offer and yet we shove His gifts aside in our pursuit of temporary things such as the right job, the right social status, the right education, the right home in the right neighborhood, the pleasures of this world rather than the things of God and so forth. God wants to give us "gold" but we are too busy playing with "fool's gold" and will not let go of it even when we are offered the real thing!
To be forgiven is more than enough but God is not satisfied with just doing that. Instead, He "adopts" us as His very own and gives us access all that He has. Not the things of this world but something far greater... the incomparable riches of His grace. Let us not be content with anything less!
Sister K, amen and amen . No one, nothing here or in Heaven can compare with God and His grace. As you rightly mentioned, there is none for comparsion. He alone stands out and He alone is God.
