There is a card with a portion of a verse on it which I have taped to the monitor of my computer. It says:
When I sit in darkness the Lord shall be a light unto me.
There are so many times, especially over the past few years that I have found myself clinging to that verse.
Do you notice that it does not say, if I sit in darkness? The scripture says when I sit in darkness. There is a difference. When I looked up this verse in various English translations of the Bible, the word when was the most frequently used. Other times it was translated as although or though. This tells me that as long as we live in this world, it is impossible for us to escape spending some time sitting in figurative darkness. In fact, I am certain that everyone reading this can immediately recall a time in their life when things seemed very dark indeed and I suspect that most if not all of us can recall multiple times this has happened to us.
It is impossible for darkness to extinguish light but light can extinguish darkness. We must never forget that. No matter how dark things may appear to be, when we cling to the Light, Jesus Christ, we are safe.
Yes, there are times when we find ourselves straining to see the Light but when we cry out to Him in those dark moments and cling to Him, we will suddenly detect the light. Oh, the circumstances surrounding us may not have changed in the least but something more important has just taken place. We suddenly realize that though darkness surrounds us, we catch a glimmer of The Light.
To those who are afraid and broken-hearted, to those who are weary, never forget that you are not alone. You are loved by God and though you may be sitting in darkness at the moment... the Lord shall be a light unto you.
This is lovely.
