Once upon a time, there were two teams, Team A and Team Z. Both teams confidently face their opponent. They have all of the proper equipment. They know the rules. They have practiced daily and are in excellent shape. Everyone knows their position. They are ready to take down their opponent and win!
As the game begins however, something strange happens. It seems like instead of being one team made up of a number of members, Team A is a collection of a number of teams each made up of one player. Instead of following "The Plan", each individual on Team A decides on their own what they are going to do. If they don't like the position they are playing, they simply start playing another. If the person in that position doesn't like it, well that's just too bad. Each team member decides that they must be "The Star" and concentrates more on what they are doing than what their teammates are doing. When one teammate gets surrounded by the opposing team, no effort is made to help them in any way. It is every man for himself and they will even rudely shove aside their own team members and prevent them from playing their respective position.
Team Z on the other hand, seems to be functioning very differently from Team A. Everyone knows the position they are supposed to play and they are playing the position to the best of their ability. They understand each play and because everyone is in their proper place, they execute each play perfectly. They run interference for one another and they understand that everyone plays a role in the success of Team Z.
Which team do you think will win the game?
Far too often, those of us who follow Christ are like Team A. Our focus is on ourselves and our agenda. Sometimes we even view other fellow Christians with suspicion, shoving them out of the way.
We need to become more like Team Z, don't you think?
AS on the sports field the players know that it is a team game and only the team will win matches not 'prima-donnas. Same with Christians - we are all part of a team=body of Christ.
