When Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, it unleashed horrors upon both themselves as well as their descendants and that would be... us. When we become a Child of God, we do indeed become a new creation in Christ however, we are still housed in bodies of flesh and will be as long as we live in this world.
Just because we are a child of God does not mean we are exempt from things such as aging or death for either ourselves or our loved ones. Nor are we exempt from sorrow and suffering. This world may not be our home but as long as we dwell here, we are susceptible to pain, suffering, sickness and even death...just like Jesus was.
I cannot say why God chooses to heal instantaneously one time and delay healing another time. I only know that He is God and He does things His way rather than mine. That's the way it should be.
I only know that as Christians we are not victims of our circumstances, we are victors over them through Jesus Christ Our Lord. The same God who protected me from brain-damage and death last December, is the very same God who walked with me through cancer treatment in 2007-2008.
In both cases, if left untreated, death was eminent. I am only alive today because God chose to spare my life. in regards to breast cancer, I had to endure surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In regards to the ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke, while it did happen, God spared me from the physical pain of what they call the worst headache in the world and protected me from any brain-damage. I only stayed in the hospital for 12 days and returned to work six weeks after rupture. They tell me that is a miracle.
Did I have more faith in 2009 than I had in 2007? I don't think so. However, I do know of people who have been blessed and encouraged by one or both of my journeys.
I do not believe God has us remaining in this world so we can accumulate more stuff, enjoy perfect health, pursue our dream career, or obtain all the knowledge this world has to offer. I believe that our purpose here is to bear witness of the One who saves us and sustains us... Jesus Christ.
Paul wrote: I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13
May we remember that regardless of our circumstances and situation, God will not abandon us and He will give us the strength to endure and overcome... no matter what!
