A number of years ago, when I was at a teacher workshop, one of the presenters was a magician. Moments into his act, I was startled to notice something. We were in the media center at a school and there was a television off to the side. The light came through in such a way that everything he did was reflected off the screen and visible to me.
After his performance, he was talking with a group of us and mentioned how he'd been alarmed to see television sets in the room. He realized that they could spoil his "illusion" so he'd taken great pains to turn them around. I decided not to mention that he had missed one.
Now after he'd left, people continued to talk, wondering how he'd done this trick and that trick. I quickly realized from their conversation that no one had been able to see this reflection except me. I had been the furthest off to the side and thus I was the only person who was able to view the offending television when the light shone through the window. I was in the right position at the right time in one respect but the magician would say that I was in the wrong position at the wrong time.
God is always in the right position at the right time. We may fool others with our sleight of hand tricks but we do not fool God. He sees things for what they really are and one day, He will reveal the truth for all to see.
Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later.- 1 Timothy 5:24-25 (NLT)
In the same way, the good deeds of some people are obvious. And the good deeds done in secret will someday come to light.
The sins of some people are very apparent. The same is true in regards to good deeds. One day, God will strip back the curtain and everything we have so carefully hidden will be revealed for all to see. What will be revealed about us?
May we live our lives so that on that day, our good works will shine forth as opposed to our sins.
