Have you ever been thirsty, I mean really thirsty? Your desire to quench that thirst consumes your thoughts. You absolutely must quench it! As you search for something that will satisfy that thirst, you imagine yourself drinking it. You can almost feel the coolness and the calming effect it has on you. If you go for long without being satisfied, you may even become agitated and you are unable to focus on anything else. Your entire being cries out for that refreshing drink.
Psalm 42:1-2 says:
As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
Can we way that? Do we long to search for God and drink deeply of Him the way a deer takes a long drink of water after a run? Do we thirst after Him? I mean really thirst after Him? Do we seek God for Himself or do we seek Him for what we can get out of Him? There is a difference, you know.
May our hearts thirst after God, Himself and may we be satisfied with nothing else other than the Water of Life!
