As the Princess walked down the road, she took a deep breath of the cool, fresh air. "Ahhh... " It had been a very long winter. As she traveled, she watched the squirrels frolic and listened to the sweet music of the birds who had returned from their long winter vacation. Idly she wondered if they had spent their winter down in Oceania with Kbird, Mums or Shani.
"If you have," she said to one of the birds, "please take me with you next winter, okay?" I just need you to get me there and Kbird will take care of the rest." LOL!
The Princess tightly clasped the hand of the One who patiently walked beside her. She flashed a smile at Him and then shouted with delight as she spied violets, crocuses, tulips and daffodils. She looked up inquiring into His face. He smiled and nodded. With a shout to her friends to come join her, she dashed ahead to inhale the lovely scent of the flowers and pick a bouquet.
Oh what fun she had, singing and laughing with her companions. Looking ahead she saw a beautiful path and if she looked hard enough, why she believed she could see her final destination. Excitement filled her heart. The journey had been very difficult at times and now it appeared that she was coming into a place of rest. Then she came to the crossroad...
She paid little attention to the crossroad. Why should she? She knew the right way, didn't she?
The Princess felt a gentle pressure on her hand. His hand was gently leading her... leading her to the path on the right. Wait a minute! This... this could not be right! This was a mistake! She must be imagining things. He must not be paying attention. That was it. She would alert Him to his "mistake".
She tried to lead Him back the direction they'd been going. He resisted. No. This was the path she had to take. Would she follow Him?
The Princess peered down that path and frowned. She shivered as she looked down it for suddenly a brisk, cold wind had risen up to greet her. The sun which was shining so brightly upon the path she had been traveling on, seemed to be hidden by thick, black clouds upon this path. The flowers... oh the flowers! They... they looked like a hard frost had come upon them in the night! Dry leaves, clinging to dark, nearly bare branches, rattled in the wind making an eerie, lonesome sound. Her ears strained to detect the sounds of the birds, the sounds of singing, the sound of laughter but... there was none.
Tears filled her eyes. Would she never see spring again? She imagined herself turning away from that cold, dark path and running back to that lovely path until she realized... He was on this path. She could keep traveling alone on that delightful path but... it would no longer be delightful for He was the One who made it so.
He smiled at her as she took His outstretched hand. He noted her tears and longed to wipe them away forever but...the time for that had not yet come. She shivered as the wind whipped up against her and it began to snow. She tried to force a smile even as her eyes filled with tears. She clutched His hand more tightly.
Gently, ever so gently and carefully, He wrapped her up warmly, caught her up in His arms... and carried her.
You O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. Ps. 18:28
Thank you KReynolds! Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have been blessed today.
This is the way, walk ye in it! Such a short sentence but the outworking can be such a challenge. I love this piece!kbird
