Winter Is But For A Moment

Snow still lies piled up high around my house. The temperature is a balmy 25F ( -4C) and will dip down to 9F ( -13C) tonight. On Tuesday, we are supposed to get snow and drop down to -4F ( -20C). However, I know spring is coming. I can see the signs.

When I looked out my window a few minutes ago, I did not notice the snowdrifts which are still piled high around my house. I noticed something else. I noticed that although it was close to 5:30 p.m., the sun was still out. I noticed that there is only a bit of snow left on the tree limbs. I noticed the squirrels racing through the trees. I noticed the Canadian Goose which flew overhead as well as the increased activity of the birds in general. I look out the window and see the subtle signs that spring is approaching. Oh it will not be here tomorrow or even next week, but I know it is coming because I have seen the evidence of it.

There are still going to be cold days ahead. There may even be a blizzard or two when fierce Alberta Clippers sweep across my beloved Minnesota. There may be some days when I will wonder if the snow will ever leave my yard and if I will ever see green grass and flowers again. Then I will remember the promise of spring. I will continue to look for signs of it, no matter how small and when it arrives, it will be ever so much sweeter because I have endured...the winter.

To those of you who are enduring "winter" in your lives, please remember these words:

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

The righteous person faces many troubles,
but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. Psalm 34:17-19 (NLT)

P.S. But in the meantime, would you like a cup of hot chocolate?
