Do Not Fear! He Will Receive You!
Why are you never driven away from Jesus when you seek Him? He was perfect. He was completely holy. He was everything we are not.
And we got Him killed.
"He was made sin who knew no sin." He didn't just love sinners, hang out with them, and encourage them. He tasted the bitterness of being treated as a criminal - even taking on our criminality. And He just could not resist taking one last criminal with Him to paradise - while he was in the very process of being slaughtered for that criminal's sin.
Jesus was so fruitful on the final leg of His race. He did an amazing job of touching the heart of Pontius Pilate - a man who had demonstrated great cruelty and heartlessness (as recorded by the historian Flavius Josephus). He spoke unselfishly to the women who were loudly weeping and mourning as he struggled under the weight of the cross He was carrying. He forgave the soldiers who had pounded the nails through his body. And He evangelized the thief on the cross.
We know his compassion draws us. But what of His holiness?
If Jesus had sinned, He would have deserved what He suffered. But as the criminal said, "We are suffering justly for what we have done. But this man has done nothing wrong!"
His Mother Had Memories Of His Innocence
What crushes our hearts is the mind blowing reality that He is kind, loving, gentle . . . perfect . . . and becomes sin for us. None knew it more than His mother. She remembered His sweet toddler face, gentle teen age temperment, compassionate heart, and a thousand other signs of a the divine spark she had carried within her. To see such a one slaughtered with such uncaring cruelty was crushing - in itself. Then, to know that He bore OUR sin in doing so - now THAT is just TOO MUCH.
As He Grew Into His Teen Years - He Kept His Kind, Loving Character
So here's the practical tip I want to give you. Don't shy away from the full emotional force of who He is and what He's like. You will have times when tears are appropriate. Man or woman - let cleansing come. Let Love flow. You will anoint him with a sweet perfume. The alabaster jar is a symbol for our hearts. When they are broken a sweet scent fills the spiritual senses of our Lord.
Our Love is not greater than His - of course. But it is different. He's not admitting His fault as we are. He has no guilt other than ours - which He took upon Himself. We hold an irresistable attractiveness to Him - as tenderly broken-hearted forgiven sinners.
He Grew Into A Mature Strong Man - Yet Remained As Kind, Gentle And Sinless As Ever
Once again, two complete opposites are true of Him at one and the same time. He is completely holy. Yet he became sin for us! The impossibility of this creates a sense of wonder and amazement that draws us to Him NOW - and fills all of eternity with MEANING.
When you're adoring Him . . . when you're indulging in a time with Him where He is just blessing you beyond words . . . you'll have to ignore that sense of your unworthiness over and over again. YES! HE LOVES YOU! His holiness does not stop Him from cherishing you.
She Could Not Imagine How They Could Kill Him - With Such Cruelty - As Though He Were A Criminal
Mary is a symbol for the Church. Christ is actually "formed in us" through the Holy Spirt - as He was formed in Mary by that same Spirit. But the harlot Gomer (Hosea's wife by God's decree) is ALSO a symbol for the Church. It is way off track to imagine thatMary was sinless. God is NOT glorified by working with perfect people. His very delight in us is that we are so very guilty - and yet He cherishes us. He is identified with us in our sin - to destroy the sin. Then we are identified with Him as we are transformed - as forgiven sinners - into HIS IMAGE.
As you are in worship - speaking as "The Bride" - you are speaking to the one whose Spirit is also in YOU - inspiring perfect praise. You, too, are totally sinful - yet made perfect in Him. Once again, God lets you PARTICIPATE in the mind blowing paradox of WHO JESUS IS.
Love is the result. So you'll find you just can't get enough of Him - and rightly so. But when He says it's time to sleep, let Him wrap you in a blanket of Love and He will meet you in your dreams. It's all good.
One more tip. Some of you will love it. The rest of you can close this link and pretend you never heard it. (I'm only half joking). Find a scented spray or perfume that reminds you of myrhh - the scent scripture most strongly connects with His suffering for you. It's likely He exuded the scent of the myrhh after He rose from the dead - since they had poured a great deal of it on His body when they had buried Him. Close your eyes and you can share the experience of the Magdalene or the apostles.
A Gift Given At The Beginning Of His Life Was Used To Anoint His Lifeless Body
Use it as an incense - or spray your pillow with it. God uses scents to unlock memories - more than any of our other senses. The amazing wonder of what you will experience as you grow in intimacy with God will have this scent "locked in with it" in your heart. Years later God will bring it all back to you using that scent as a key to unlock the treasures of your heart. And your dreams will be permeated with the knowledge that He Love YOU and even became sin for you.
Now all the tough guys reading this are dismissed to collectively wash their hands of me. The tough guys who are also emotionally secure might just be crazy enough to try it.
You're letting God "get under your skin" though - just by melting in His Presence and letting Him wash your feet. If the Holy Spirit comforts you more than you ever imagined possible - do not be surprised.
The Wonder Of His Holiness - Yet Becoming Sin For Us Will Fill All Of Eternity

I love these truths you've written here.
There have been times when I've been privileged to experience what you've written about regarding this powerful, great love; and the only thing I could do was weep -- profoundly! Thank you beyond measure for sharing this beautiful insight.
I appreciate too the imagery that you've coordinated with it. Thank you and God bless!
