"The future of one and one-half million Jews in Europe depends on what happens at the present meeting of the United Nations. . . . . .How they will be able to survive another winter in concentration camps and the Hell holes in which they live, is beyond my imagination. In all this world, there is only one place where they can go - and that is Palestine. You and I know only too well this is the only answer. . . . . . I have read Secretary Marshall's recent statement that the U.S. would give great weight to UNSOP's recommendation; . . . . .I trust to God that he give you strength and guidance to act immediately. . . . . because tens of thousands of lives depend on words from your mouth and heart. Harry, my people need help and I am appealing to you to help them."
(Excerpts from a letter to President Harry S. Truman, October 3, 1947, from Mr. Edward Jacobson, Kansas City, Missouri)
On May 14th Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion read the proclamation of nationhood. Striking the speaker's table for emphasis, he announced, "The name of our state shall be Israel."
On May 12th, President Truman had gathered his advisers. Tempers flared. A case for recognition was made and Secretary of State George Marshall led the opposition, saying he couldn't vote for President Truman if he pursued recognition. On May 14th Truman did act. America recognized the new state of Israel.
The American statement recognizing the new State of Israel bears President Truman's last-minute handwritten changes. See the photograph of letter at top right of blog - it reads:This Government has been informed that a Jewish state has been proclaimed in Palestine, and recognition has been requested by the provisional Government thereof. The United States recognizes the provisional government as the de facto authority of the new State of Israel - - Harry S. Truman - - approved May 14, 1948
American recognition came shortly after midnight in Palestine, just minutes after the new nation was proclaimed.
God used the United States and it's then President, Harry S. Truman, to help bring about the rebirth of Israel as a nation in just one day.
Prophecy was fulfilled. The rebirth of the state of Israel in 1948 was a miracle of history.
Never before has a nation been destroyed, its people dispersed to the ends of the earth, and then, nearly two thousand years later, regathered to their homeland and reestablished as a nation.
14 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when it shall no longer be said, 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,' 15 but 'As the LORD lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.' For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their fathers.
10 "Then fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the LORD, nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid. 11 For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD; I will make a full end of all the nations among whom I scattered you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished. (Part of this prophecy will be fulfilled with the Second Coming of Jesus).
