Lesson 1 - God the Creator - Genesis 1:1 & 2

This summer, as I teach Kids Connection, the focus is going to be on presenting the literal account of God and His Creation found in Genesis chapters 1 and 2. I am going to share the lesson sheets I prepare for the children. I can't include all of the pictures I use with each lesson.

Our first evening of Kids Connection-- Wednesday, June 3, 2015

God is referred to as the Creator of the heavens and earth and all living things in
Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, I Chronicles, Nehemiah, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos, Zechariah, Malachi, Matthew, Mark, John, Acts, Romans, I Corinthians, Ephesians, Colossians, I Timothy, Hebrews, I Peter, II Peter and Revelation

27 of the 66 books in the Bible

Honor God As Our Creator

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Memory Verse Genesis 1:1 In the beginning GOD created the heavens and the earth.

God created the heavens and the earth at the same time according to Scripture. Read Genesis 2:4.

God spent six days doing His creative work and on the seventh day God rested.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Matthew 19:4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female.'

Scripture clearly states that male and female were made at/from the beginning of creation. Genealogies record that God made the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, about 6,000 years ago.

Literal interpretation and conclusion: The heavens, earth and all living things on earth were created about 6,000 years ago.

Genesis 1:2 tells us:
1) The earth was without form - God had not yet formed the earth.

2) The earth was void (empty) - God had not yet made plants, animals and mankind.

3) In darkness, the Spirit of God hovered over the waters - God was preparing to begin His creative work.

Days 1-6 tell us how God prepared the earth to be inhabited, and, how He then filled the earth with living things.

Memory Verse - Genesis 1:2

The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Teaching the Creation Account according to God's Word and not man's words is so important. Honoring God, believing God, trusting God above all else should be our focus. God's Word is the "authoritative" truth from the very first verse in Genesis to the very last verse in Revelation. I choose to use the KJV (or NKJV) as the best source for the depth needed in the study of Genesis 1-11 as I know that I know God has called me to preach and to teach His literal account of His Creative Work. Praise God

Thank you Bethy and Sarah for your uplifting comments of encouragement.

Blessings, Dorothy
